West Michigan's music scene
After a COVID-impaired 2020, it’s been another banner year for Michigan’s music scene.
Live music made a comeback at the same time that local and regional artists released an avalanche of new recordings, sending many of them on robust tours — from Traverse City’s The Accidentals to Midland-Kalamazoo-Detroit’s Michigander to Grand Rapids’ Full Cord Bluegrass and more.
And 2022 is shaping up to be even more hectic when it comes to concerts and festivals as the pandemic wanes (we hope).
The past year’s resumption of live performances once again created opportunities for Local Spins’ talented crew of photographers to capture the passion of Michigan bands and solo artists in concert images.
We’ve compiled more than two dozen of those for the 2022 Local Spins Calendar, along with a lengthy roster of music festivals that so far have been announced and confirmed.
Local Spins created these colorful mementos several years ago primarily as a vehicle to showcase the incredible artistry of our concert photographers, as well as display the diverse talent of emerging Michigan bands.
And since then, they’ve also become a terrific way to track Michigan’s music festival scene, which has exploded over the past decade or so.
With the holidays fast approaching, these unique calendars — sponsored by Modelo Especial and Athletic Brewing via Alliance Beverage — make ideal Michigan-centric gifts for the musicians and music lovers on your list.
Plus, a portion of proceeds from calendar sales to to support Access of West Michigan which works to address root causes of poverty as well ensure that all people have access to good food in our community. Donate directly to this organization that works to end hunger and poverty online here.
Order your calendars online here at $15 each. (We’ll also have calendars available for sale at some Michigan Music Alliance events and select Listening Room concerts through the end of the year.)
Show your support for Michigan music, Local Spins’ amazing staff and those working to end poverty. And happy holidays!
