MONDAY
MICHIGAN MONDAYS:
SAVANNAH & KATIE OF THE ACCIDENTALS
MEGAN SLANKARD
STEPHIE JAMES
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Tickets: $20 ($50 VIP)
Where: Listening Room, Grand Rapids
Local Spins presents the kickoff event for our monthly Michigan Mondays series showcasing Mitten State artists at Listening Room. The first show is dubbed, “Time Out: An Evening of Stories and Songs featuring Sav Buist, Katie Larson, Megan Slankard and Stephie James in the round.” The Accidentals’ Sav Buist and Katie Larson of Traverse City’s The Accidentals are “some of the most compelling songwriters of our time,” says NPR. Megan Slankard “has more going for her than seems reasonably fair. She’s whip smart, funny, a really solid guitar player, and then she starts singing and blows the roof off the joint,” says Yellow Couch Sessions. And Detroit-bred Stephie James “embodies a rare and modern, yet powerfully nostalgic, rockabilly voice. Her songs are timeless,” says Pop Matters.
The show will include an on-stage interview with the songwriters by Local Spins publisher John Sinkevics. In addition, it serves as the official debut of the new “Michigan Music” compilation featuring tracks from 33 Michigan-bred artists, with all proceeds supporting singer-songwriter Ralston Bowles and his wife, Cindy, who’s battling cancer. The double-album will be available for sale at the concert, along with Local Spins 2020 Calendars. Get show tickets online here.
