West Michigan's music scene
Until the pandemic pulled the rug out from under things, this shaped up as one of the busiest weeks of the summer.
A full schedule of amphitheater shows at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture in Grand Rapids and Bell’s Brewery Beer Garden in Kalamazoo would have added to a robust lineup of music festivals, including Cowpie Music Festival, Farmfest, Unity Christian Music Festival, Grand Haven’s Walk the Beat and others.
On the flip side, some outdoor series are getting into a groove amid “the new normal,” including Grand Rapids bluegrass fave Mark Lavengood (with special guest Patty PerShayla) playing the third weekly show in the Listening Lawn series on Thursday night outside Studio Park in downtown Grand Rapids, and Benton Harbor’s The Mendel Center hosting the first show in its “Drive-In Concert Series” at 5 p.m. Sunday with Jenna Mammina, The Andrew Fisher Quartet and Doc Revolver.
Check out this week’s concert guide below. Also, Michigan artists and festivals continue to host live-stream performances that allow fans to experience music from the safety of their own homes. Find some of those online here.
As usual, we encourage those attending in-person concerts to wear masks, social-distance, wash their hands and follow guidelines as recommended by health officials. (Purchase a Local Spins bandana/face covering here and help Local Spins keep rolling: Local Spins Gift Shop.)
If your business or your band has a live, in-person performance to add to this concert listing, email the information to john@localspins.com.
