It’s never a dull moment when Los Angeles punk rock band The Flesh Eaters roll into town. This ensemble cast of musicians is led by punk poet Chris Desjardins and rocking with him is Dave Alvin and Bill Bateman from The Blasters; John Doe and D.J. Bonedrake of X; and Steve Berlin of The Plugz and later The Blasters and Los Lobos. In celebration of the 2019 album release “I Used To Be Pretty,” they’re bringing their tour to Grand Rapids, introducing their mature vocals that reflect on the notion of aging, but being young at heart.

It doesn’t take long for heavy-rock quartet All Them Witches to put listeners under the bands’s spell. This Nashville-based band continually evolves and hones its skills to a fine point every album and every show, concocting bluesy psychedelic rock that harken back to 1970s classic rock. The guys are touring behind their most recent album, “ATW.”

Coming all the way from Vienna, Austria, the Vienna Boys Choir will be performing at Calvin College on the group’s tour around the United States. The Vienna Boys Choir has a long history of training and touring, dating back to the choir’s founding over 500 years ago.

A year later, Brooklyn-based indie/art-pop band Rubblebucket is still touring in support of its 2018 release “Sun Machine.” The now-separated musical couple of Annakalmia Travor and Alex Toth channeled their breakup into their latest album for what might be their strongest effort to date, and they’ll bring all the danceability and energy of that album to The Pyramid Scheme on Friday.
Joining Rubblebucket will be Twain, the solo project of singer-songwriter Mat Davidson whose musical stylings run the gamut from indie-folk to experimental lo-fi music. Tickets to Friday’s show can be found here.

The real celebration (and music) starts after the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Parade which kicks off at 11 a.m. in downtown Grand Rapids and marches along Monroe Center.
The pub does it all over again from noon until 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Artists performing this year will be the Conklin Ceili Band, Colin Tobin and Brendan Loughrey. Music gets started around 12:30 p.m. or so on Saturday, and sometime after noon on Sunday.

Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish at Billy’s Lounge, 9 p.m. Saturday, $5 at the door — Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish work hard. The band boasts Jammie Awards for all three of their studio releases, and is currently on a winter tour across the state of Michigan. Saturday’s performance comes near the end of the tour, as they continue to hone their craft and expand their fanbase.
