Grace Potter has rightly wowed critics and fans since first making a splash with her band, The Nocturnals, about 15 years ago. The Vermont native, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist not only crafts catchy tunes (“Love is Love,” “Ah Mary,” “Medicine,” “Paris (Ooh La La),” “Stars”) but has a magnetic, mesmerizing stage presence. She brings her national tour to Grand Rapids this week – the only Michigan stop on this leg of that tour.

DAVID BOWIE TRIBUTE BY HAZY PAST

February is Tribute Month for Local Spins Wednesdays at SpeakEZ Lounge and it kicks off with a doozy of a show: Grand Rapids’ Hazy Past presents a tribute to the legendary late David Bowie, with plenty of Ziggy Stardust-era tracks and more. This is a “one-night only” affair that will also feature Rolly Smith (Cosmic Knot) on sax and percussion for part of the night with singer Jamie Kosmicki (Mama K & the Kosmic Sway/Oracle) guest starring on some vocals.

Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, North Coast Guitar Company and WYCE, with Michigan beer specials on tap and free parking in the city lot kitty-corner from SpeakEZ on Monroe Avenue to the south, or in the Sixth Street Park lot to the north. Plenty of street parking, too. Admission to the show is free. By the way, Tribute Month continues on Feb. 12 with The Doors Opened, Feb. 19 with That Beatles Thing and Feb. 26 with the Catch the Fish tribute to Rush.

THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS

Critics have credited Nashville’s progressive bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters for pushing the bluegrass genre forward. The award-winning group – Andy Hall, Andy Falco, Chris Pandolfi, Jeremy Garett and Travis Book – has released nine albums over the years, including 2019’s “Rise Sun.” The band also recently released a “Live from Covington, KY” album that features “energizing live tracks” by the group.

ALLMAN BETTS BAND

This is a rescheduled show featuring the Allman Betts Band, formed by Devon Allman and Duane Betts (sons of legends Greg Allman and Dickey Betts). The group released its debut album, “Down to the River,” in the spring of 2019, reflecting much of the Southern rock flavor that drove the Allman Brothers (and the band plays some Allman Brothers tunes).

Allman and Betts, who met in 1989, are joined by slide guitarist Johnny Stachela as well as Berry Oakley Jr., R. Scott Bryan and John Lum. JD Simo and Jackson Stokes are also on the bill for this GR tour stop. Tickets available here.

COFFIN PROBLEM

Where: Grand Rapids Public Museum Chaffee Planetarium, Grand Rapids

The “Concerts Under the Stars” series at the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Chaffee Planetarium continues with the “drone rock” of GR’s Coffin Problem, a band that often creates a wall of psychedelic sound with a myriad of special effects.

This performance will be accompanied by visuals crafted by Sean Kenny, a psychologist and experimental filmmaker. Get more information online here.

DIRTY HONEY

Los Angeles rock ‘n’ roll band Dirty Honey continues to tour behind the group’s 2019 self-titled release with a full-throttled approach that’s on full display on songs such as “When I’m Gone,” which soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart.

JACK DROPPERS & THE BEST INTENTIONS

Grand Rapids roots rock band Jack Droppers & The Best Intentions have steadily risen the ransk in West Michigan’s music scene and released two Jammie Award-nominated albums in 2019, the “Three on Three EP” and “Bottle Up Like a Neon Light.” The band with anthemic music makes its Listening Room debut in this Audiotree Presents show which will also feature Young Ritual.

DOMESTIC PROBLEMS

Michigan fans of 1990s faves Domestic Problems have two chances to see the band perform in this “reunion weekend” for the pop-hued rock and jam group led by Andy Holtgreive. First up, the band aims to fill Elevation inside The intersection with Grand Rapids fans on Friday night.

They follow this up with a ride over to Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit where they’ll be joined by another ’90 Michigan icon, The Verve Pipe. Get details about the GR show at sectionlive.com. Valentiger will open the Elevation concert, with doors opening at 6 p.m. for this all-ages show.

THE INSIDERS: TOM PETTY TRIBUTE

Where: The Pyramid Scheme, Grand Rapids

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Max Lockwood leads this popular Michigan-based Tom Petty tribute band which has crisscrossed the state and sold out shows paying homage to the songs of the late rocker. This particular show by The Insiders is special because it partners with Bruce Heys Builders in a benefit for New City Kids, which offers the After School Center and Teen Life Internship as a way of assisting children and teens to create “a community of academic, musical, spiritual and leadership development.”

SLEEPING WITH SIRENS

Where: The Intersection, Grand Rapids

Florida post-hardcore rock band Sleeping With Sirens last year released its sixth studio album, “How It Feels to Be Lost,” which peaked at No. 92 on the Billboard 200 chart. The band’s 2013 release, “Feel,” hit No. 3 on that chart, helping the group cultivate a growing legion of fans.

Also performing during this Grand Rapids stop on “The Medicine” tour will be Set It Off, Belmont and Point North. Doors open at 6 p.m. for this all-ages show, with more details here.

JACQUEES

R&B and hip hop artist Jacquees (Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax) scored a big hit in 2016 with “B.E.D.” and released the full-length album, “King of R&B,” last November. The album soared to No. 20 on the Billboard 200 chart and features the singles, “Your Peace,” “Hot For Me” and “Verify.”

BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY

Cleveland rap icons Bone Thugs-N-Harmony bring their U.S. tour to Grand Rapids, set to light up 20 Monroe Live with classics such as “Tha Crossroads,” “Look Into My Eyes,” “Change the World” and “I Tried.” The group has released 10 albums since 1993 (including 2017’s “New Waves”).

DARCY WILKIN CD-RELEASE SHOW

Officially released on Jan. 1, Kalamazoo singer-songwriter Darcy Wilkin’s debut album, “Bristol,” is filled with heart-rending, insightful lyrics and captivating Americana music delivered by a who’s who roster of West Michigan musicians. Wilkin, a member of Kalamazoo folk ensemble Corn Fed Girls, will celebrate the album in this seated show at Bell’s Brewery.

Three different Grand Rapids rock bands with three distinctly different vibes will light up the Tip Top on Saturday night. Alt-rock’s The Autumnatic, led by singer-guitarist Nick Arthur, recently released a new single; Barrel Bones incorporates blues and soul into its approach; and Lighting Matches mixes things up with “alt-rock with folk roots” music.

There’s literally nothing quite like Grand Rapids’ Vintage Parlor Orchestra. Led by music director Tom Pike, the orchestral music ensemble is “just a really big rock band made up of strings and winds that happens to play symphonies and concertos.” It should make for a unique experience at this 200-capacity venue, especially with Folias Duo and the West Michigan New Music Collective also on board.
