Grace Potter has rightly wowed critics and fans since first making a splash with her band, The Nocturnals, about 15 years ago. The Vermont native, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist not only crafts catchy tunes (“Love is Love,” “Ah Mary,” “Medicine,” “Paris (Ooh La La),” “Stars”) but has a magnetic, mesmerizing stage presence. She brings her national tour to Grand Rapids this week – the only Michigan stop on this leg of that tour.

February is Tribute Month for Local Spins Wednesdays at SpeakEZ Lounge and it kicks off with a doozy of a show: Grand Rapids’ Hazy Past presents a tribute to the legendary late David Bowie, with plenty of Ziggy Stardust-era tracks and more. This is a “one-night only” affair that will also feature Rolly Smith (Cosmic Knot) on sax and percussion for part of the night with singer Jamie Kosmicki (Mama K & the Kosmic Sway/Oracle) guest starring on some vocals.
Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, North Coast Guitar Company and WYCE, with Michigan beer specials on tap and free parking in the city lot kitty-corner from SpeakEZ on Monroe Avenue to the south, or in the Sixth Street Park lot to the north. Plenty of street parking, too. Admission to the show is free. By the way, Tribute Month continues on Feb. 12 with The Doors Opened, Feb. 19 with That Beatles Thing and Feb. 26 with the Catch the Fish tribute to Rush.

Critics have credited Nashville’s progressive bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters for pushing the bluegrass genre forward. The award-winning group – Andy Hall, Andy Falco, Chris Pandolfi, Jeremy Garett and Travis Book – has released nine albums over the years, including 2019’s “Rise Sun.” The band also recently released a “Live from Covington, KY” album that features “energizing live tracks” by the group.

This is a rescheduled show featuring the Allman Betts Band, formed by Devon Allman and Duane Betts (sons of legends Greg Allman and Dickey Betts). The group released its debut album, “Down to the River,” in the spring of 2019, reflecting much of the Southern rock flavor that drove the Allman Brothers (and the band plays some Allman Brothers tunes).
Allman and Betts, who met in 1989, are joined by slide guitarist Johnny Stachela as well as Berry Oakley Jr., R. Scott Bryan and John Lum. JD Simo and Jackson Stokes are also on the bill for this GR tour stop. Tickets available here.

The “Concerts Under the Stars” series at the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Chaffee Planetarium continues with the “drone rock” of GR’s Coffin Problem, a band that often creates a wall of psychedelic sound with a myriad of special effects.

Michigan fans of 1990s faves Domestic Problems have two chances to see the band perform in this “reunion weekend” for the pop-hued rock and jam group led by Andy Holtgreive. First up, the band aims to fill Elevation inside The intersection with Grand Rapids fans on Friday night.

This particular show by The Insiders is special because it partners with Bruce Heys Builders in a benefit for New City Kids, which offers the After School Center and Teen Life Internship as a way of assisting children and teens to create “a community of academic, musical, spiritual and leadership development.”
