Amazingly, this is the 17th annual holiday show hosted by Grand Rapids’ kings of ska, Mustard Plug, and it promises to be another fun-filled, rollicking affair with sets by The Lippies, Dance Contraption and Ugly Flannel, along with the zesty boys from MP.

Grand Rapids’ “country-fried” The Bootstrap Boys kick off three straight nights of intriguing shows featuring local bands at Listening Room. The latest album (“Between the Hat & The Boots”) from retro-country/outlaw country outfit led by Big Jake Bootstrap (Jake Stilson) zoomed straight to No. 1 on the Local Spins Hot Top 5 Chart in September and the band’s Listening Room debut promises to be memorable.

This special Friday night show at One Trick Pony features a special family band as it were, with much-respected West Michigan pianist Steve Talaga joined by his son, Stephen, on guitar, his daughter, Lauren, on vocals, and Larry Ochiltree on drums. The band plans to perform “a pretty broad spectrum” of tunes, including a mix of jazz originals, standards, pop, soul and rock.

This is billed as “Fake New Year’s Eve” – a two-night run at Bell’s Brewery by Michigan’s own groove-driven favorites Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers. Hordes of fans will be waving giant flowers and gyrating to the eclectic, pop-hued jams from this colorful bunch.
