One of the most-buzzed-about local releases of the summer is now a chart-topper.
The Accidentals’ first album on the Sony Music Masterworks label, “Odyssey,” jumped to the top of the heap in August, racking up more spins at WYCE-FM that month than any other local or regional release.
The Traverse City alt-folk band will be touring heavily behind the new album — which features guest appearances by national artists such as Keller Williams and Jenny Conlee — appearing at Nashville’s AmericanaFest on Sept. 14 and following that with tour stops in Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah and Colorado.
They’ll be back in Michigan for official album-release shows on Oct. 26 at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo, Oct. 27 at Muskegon’s Frauenthal Center, Oct. 28 at Bay City’s State Theater and Oct. 29 at Detroit’s St. Andrew’s Hall. Get more information on the band’s website, and read the Local Spins review of the new album online here.
July’s No. 1 regional album — The War & Treaty’s “Down to the River” — finished at No. 2 for August, followed by “Elephant EP” from Grand Rapids’ In the Valley Below, a husband-and-wife indie-rock duo which moved to West Michigan about a year ago after making a splash in Los Angeles.
For the third month in a row, Dan Rickabus’ first solo album, “Void Journal,” finished in the Top 5, followed by Mount Pleasant soul-pop band Paddlebots’ new recording, “Mouth Full of Dirt.”
