But her talents, her development and rising popularity is a testament to the entire West Michigan region’s musical camaraderie.
“I love how supportive and collaborative everybody that’s a part of West Michigan’s music scene is,” Dooley told Local Spins on WYCE host John Sinkevics.
“To live in a place where I can work and collaborate with other musicians that love and relish the opportunity to learn from each other and explore new things, I wouldn’t be the musician I am today if I didn’t collaborate with some of the area’s amazing musicians. We’ve got something really special going on in this area.”
And after a year that had its low points, a split with a partner and bandmate, and high points with a new album and so many satisfying gigs, Dooley is looking forward to more collaborations, expanding her band and doing more touring in 2016. Listen to the rest of the on-air interview here.

The Local Spins on WYCE podcast also featured an in-studio interview with Grand Rapids hip hop artist Rick Chyme, who not only has a new recording project with Nixon, “Bald Since Birth,” due to be released in February (with the track, “Today,” aired during the show) but whose music also is featured in the film “Pull Me Back,” which is part of a current exhibition at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids.
That exhibit, “A Gallery of New Works in Screendance,” also features two other dance films and a complementary collection of dance photography and video. Get more information about that exhibit online at uica.org here.
The show also featured the debut of new tracks by the Connell-Brewer Jazz Band, K. Jones and the Benzie Playboys, Joshua Kohns and Alexander Lynch, as well as songs from Kaitlin Rose, The Fever Haze, Borns, Heaters and more.
