West Michigan's music scene
West Michigan celebrated the end of another year (for many, it was “goodbye and good riddance”) in rollicking fashion across many cities and many venues.
Local Spins photographers captured the fun in images at 20 Monroe Live (the packed, carnival-like Resolution Ball), The Intersection (WSNX’s Beats & Bubbly: The Masquerade as well as SunSquabi), Creston Brewery (Mark Lavengood Band, Earth Radio, Afro Zuma), Kalamazoo State Theatre (The Dead South, The Crane Wives, Hooten Hallers) and downtown Kalamazoo (New Year’s Fest, The Mainstays at The Union Cabaret).
And that was just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, when it comes to big parties ushering in the New Year.
Folks — and bands — actually started celebrating with help of capacity crowds right after Christmas:
• Mustard Plug’s annual holiday rock bash at Elevation inside The Intersection on Thursday;
• The Outer Vibe’s homecoming show at Rockford Brewing and Murder by Death (with Winnow) at The Pyramid Scheme on Friday;
• A couple of mammoth celebrations of Michigan bands on Saturday: the sold-out 20 Monroe Live concert starring West Michigan hard-rock honchos Pop Evil (along with Wayland, Wilson and Handsome Pete) and the “Fake New Year’s Eve” party at Kalamazoo State Theatre with Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, Desmond Jones and Basic Comfort.
Check out all of the images and videos below while you recover with eyes glazed over and college bowl games blaring.
And Happy New Year!
