As anyone who’s visited DamnYouAutoCorrect.com knows, there’s belly-laugh hilarity involved in text messages when “hugs” come out as “bugs,” “election day” becomes “ejection day,” “nachos” morph into “backhoes,” “Capistrano” turns into “vapid tramp,” and “I love you” becomes “I purge you,” plus scads of ribaldly corrected mis-types that can’t be printed here.
But this Spins on Music message isn’t a misprint: A ridiculous number of bands and solo artists brought the musical noise to a host of venues over the weekend in and around Grand Rapids, starting with Thursday night’s Rachael Davis double-header (the now Nashville-based singer-songwriter started the evening with a performance at Fricano’s Pizza, then sat in with Seth Bernard and Friends at Founders Brewing) and Kalamazoo country singer Kris Hitchcock and Small Town Son’s CD-release bash at The Intersection, which drew nearly 500 enthusiastic fans.
There was more to come throughout the weekend, of course: Thirsty Perch Blues Band’s CD-release at Billy’s Lounge, Alexis returning to a Founders with its rousing electro-pop glory while celebrating singer Matt Forbush’s birthday in dance-inspiring style, singer-songwriter Cameron Blake’s Rockford homecoming with special guest Ralston Bowles, and Linday Lou @ the Flatbellys’ bluegrass bluster at Spring Lake’s Seven Steps Up.
All in all, a fab Sweden. I mean, weekend. Darn autocorrect.
