With 10 No. 1 singles and an enduring sing-along at sporting events worldwide (“Sweet Caroline”), Neil Diamond has plenty of milestones in his impressive musical resume and 60-plus-year career.
He’s sold more than 130 million records worldwide, spurring his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, as well as receiving a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
And over the next two months, West Michigan fans of the artist who performed the first official concert at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena in 1996 will get several opportunities to celebrate Diamond’s music.
It starts Friday at Grand Rapids’ SpeakEZ Lounge as part of Local Spins’ “Tribute Month,” with The Frog King unfurling an evening of Diamond’s classics starting at 7:30 p.m. The acclaimed regional band led by keyboardist John Neil has become Michigan’s leading tribute to Diamond. Then, in early April, the acclaimed Broadway musical, “A Beautiful Noise,” comes to DeVos Performance Hall as part of Broadway Grand Rapids’ 2025 season.
