Now at 40, he’s inspiring a new generation of musicians, including 16-year-old phenom Jake Kershaw of Marshall (who hosts a CD-release show for his debut album Oct. 19 at The Stache inside The Intersection).
Bonamassa has a dozen albums to his credit and brings the North American tour behind his latest, 2016’s “Blues of Desperation,” to Grand Rapids (right after playing three straight nights at New York’s Beacon Theatre). Tickets are available online.

Gogol Bordello brings its “Seekers and Finders Tour” to Grand Rapids, firing up the Latin-flavored Gypsy punk and dub music that’s gotten the New York band plenty of attention since it first hit the scene about 18 years ago. The band released its seventh studio album, “Seekers and Finders,” featuring a guest spot by Regina Spektor, in August.

Grand Rapids indie-pop/garage rock band Lipstick Jodi earned plenty of attention for its debut EP, “Good Not Great,” which was released in early 2016, but the buzz surrounding its self-titled full-length debut album has been even bigger and for good reason: This 12-track album is full of catchy tracks that simply rock. (It also features remixed/remastered versions of all four tracks from the debut EP.)
The band led by Karli Morehouse will officially unleash the new collection in an album-release show at The Stache with Jes Kramer and likemelikeyou also on the bill. Doors open at 7 p.m.

These uber-talented Michigan guys who’ve toured the globe may not always get the national publicity they deserve, but they’re a sensational trio with a diehard local following. Organissimo not only brings its jazz-fired, organ-driven attack to Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill, but also are using the occasion to release a brand new live CD, “Live at the SpeakEZ.” Featured are organ whiz Jim Alfredson, drummer Randy Marsh and guitarist Lawrence Barris.

For the second year in a row during ArtPrize, the free Blue Bridge Music Festival takes place Friday and Saturday on the blue pedestrian bridge spanning the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids. Friday’s performances begin at 5 p.m. with Kalamazoo’s Yolonda Lavender, followed by The Bootstrap Boys and Michigander. On Saturday, the music begins at 2 p.m. with Brad Fritcher’s MOODS, followed by Asamu Johnson & The Associates of the Blues, Jesse Ray & The Carolina Catfish, Watching for Foxes and, finally, The Great Ones. This brand new Willowsong Music Festival on a farm north of Grand Rapids showcases a host of regional acts, including Michael Riley, Nicholas James Thomasma, Eric Engblade, Chain Of Lakes, Mat Churchill, Stovepipe Stover, Pink Sky, Red Legs, The Sadie Hawkins, Deerfield Run, Patty Pershayla and Adam Geoffrey Schmidt.

A multi-location fund-raiser for Planned Parenthood and an opportunity for femme voices to be heard, this second annual Ladyfest At The Lakeshore aims to raise both money and awareness. The festival “promotes ideas of diversity and non-binary perspectives from all genders, races and sexual orientations,” organizers say.
And about the music: Lady Ace Boogie is a well-known rapper in West Michigan, and she’s joined on the bill by a host of women who are making their names in the local music scene. There’s a time and place for everyone: The day gets rolling at 2 p.m. at Jackson House; then moves to Pigeon Hill, 500 W. Western Ave., for 5-8:45 p.m.; and rolls into Unruly Brewing, 360 W. Carl Palmer, 67, the legendary drummer for Emerson, Lake and Palmer, continues to carry the torch for this prog-rock powerhouse, performing the band’s hits and more in what’s described as “a hard-driving instrumental performance” that reinvents ELP’s music. The mucho-respected drummer dubs it his “ELP Legacy” tour, which is making its way across North America this fall. This is the only Michigan stop.

Ah, yes, ZZ Top, that “Little Ol’ Band From Texas,” is set to rock Grand Rapids again as it continues to lay undisputed claim to being the longest running major rock band with original personnel intact. The Texas trio was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and continues to churn out its audience-pleasing, Texas-bred blues-driven rock, from “La Grange” to “Cheap Sunglasses” to “Sharp Dressed Man.”

Those lovable ska boys from Mustard Plug are back to rev up The Pyramid Scheme with a hometown show that’s liable to rattle the rafters and keep folks out on the dance floor deep into the night. The Grand Rapids band plans to play “Evildoers Beware” in its entirety and continues to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a bunch of Michigan shows (Mustard Plug also plays The Avenue Café in Lansing on Friday, The Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on Oct. 13 and Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo on Oct. 20.)

This has been a hot ticket from the moment it was announced by 20 Monroe Live. Modest Mouse, that cutting-edge indie-rock/alt-rock band from the Pacific Northwest, has impressed critics and fans alike since first bursting onto the scene in the 1990s. The band’s latest album, 2015’s “Strangers to Ourselves,” got mixed reviews, but still pumps out that unique Modest Mouse vibe driven by lead singer and guitarist Isaac Brock.
New York’s Mass Gothic (Noel Heroux of Hooray for Earth) opens the show touring behind its debut.
