TONY BENNETT
When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Tickets: $72.50-$147.50
Where: DeVos Performance Hall, Grand Rapids
The legacy is long, impressive and wide-ranging. Iconic singer Tony Bennett started earning accolades back in the 1940s and established a career as an in-demand singer of jazz, pop standards, show tunes and Big Band material, earning an astounding 19 Grammy Awards along the way. He got a big boost popularity-wise awhile back due to his work with Lady Gaga, and his signature song, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” was chosen for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally and historically significant.
Even more remarkable: At 91, he’s still touring and makes a stop this week in Grand Rapids. Tickets, surprisingly, are still available. Check online here. His daughter, Antonia Bennett, will open the show.
LOCAL SPINS WEDNESDAY:
LIPSTICK JODI
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Admission: Free
Where: SpeakEZ Lounge, Grand Rapids
This will be a special night: The Local Spins Wednesdays debut of Lipstick Jodi.
The indie-rock/pop of Lipstick Jodi is rife with catchy hooks, smart lyrics and head-turning attitude, all showcased brilliantly on its self-titled, full-length album released late last year and which won “best alternative album” at the 2018 Jammie Awards. Led by guitarist and lead singer Karli Morehouse, the Grand Rapids band (which also features Luke Rockhold and Jamie Baarman) is making its SpeakEZ Lounge debut for Local Spins Wednesday.
Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, Perrin Brewing Company and WYCE, with Michigan beer specials on tap and free parking across the street in the Monroe Avenue NW parking lot.
IN THE BIG LIST SPOTLIGHT: TULIP TIME IN HOLLAND
Tulip Time has upped the ante from the usual concert offerings during the annual celebration in Holland, with a pair of highly respected Michigan artists – folk/Americana’s Joshua Davis and up-and-coming blues-rock guitarist Jake Kershaw – on the bill this year, plus chart-topping classic crossover vocal group The Texas Tenors, The Beach Boys and more. Here are five spotlighted Tulip Time shows courtesy of The Big List. For a complete schedule and tickets, visit tuliptime.com.
THE TEXAS TENORS
When: 7 p.m. Wednesday
Tickets: $32
Where: Central Wesleyan Church, 446 W. 40th St., Holland
The Texas Tenors made a splash on “America’s Got Talent” a few years ago and have since cleaned up chart-wise and award-wise. Not only did their latest album, “Rise,” shoot straight to No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Crossover chart and No. 5 on the Country chart, but this comes after the vocal group won three Emmy Awards, starred in two PBS specials and played 1,500-plus concerts across the globe. And they’re good doobies, too: With a home base in Houston, they gave 100 percent of proceeds from sales of the single “Rise” to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
JOSHUA DAVIS
When: 8 p.m. Thursday
Tickets: $25
Where: Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 E. 8th St., Holland
For Michigan fans, singer-songwriter Joshua Davis needs no introduction. After all, the Traverse City-based Americana and folk-rock artist has long been a fixture on the region’s music scene, starting with his work fronting the popular band Steppin’ In It and later as a solo act. Of course, the rest of the country got a taste of his immense talent during his remarkable run on NBC’s “The Voice” a few years ago. He’s currently touring in support of his latest album, “The Way Back Home,” and is finishing up work on a brand new recording at Grand Rapids’ Goon Lagoon studio.
THE BEACH BOYS
When: 7 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $65-$75
Where: Central Wesleyan Church, 440 W. 40th St., Holland
They’re still at it more than 50 years later. The Beach Boys made, yes, a splash in the 1960s with harmony-laden pop hits such as “Surfin’ U.S.A.,” “Good Vibrations” and “Fun, Fun, Fun.” Led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, they’ll uncork lots of that fun music for a Tulip Time audience.
RIVER CITY IMPROV
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $12
Where: Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 E. 8th St., Holland

Tickets: $12 advance, $15 day of show
Where: Knickerbocker Theatre, 86 E. 8th St. Holland
Marshall’s blues-rock guitarist Jake Kershaw has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past year. The 17-year-old musician released his debut album, “Piece of My Mind,” and headlined a number of high-profile shows, as well as opening sets for some national blues stars. Last week, he was a featured performer at the Dallas International Guitar Festival, networking with stars and industry folks and playing with “young guns” as well as seasoned professionals. The guitar prodigy brings his passionate playing – and surprisingly mature songwriting – to Holland’s Tulip Time.
