Not only did it really feel like an early spring had sprung this weekend, but fan-pleasing concerts were springing up from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo.
There were tour stops by alt-rock’s Silversun Pickups at Kalamazoo State Theatre, singer-songwriter Aimee Mann at Grand Rapids’ St. Cecilia Music Center and pop singer Chelsea Cutler at GLC Live at 20 Monroe, with Intersection-hosted shows by country’s Kylie Morgan and Chase Matthew as well as electronic music’s Crankdat.

Saturday night also boasted the first round of The Stray in Grand Rapids’ annual Battle of the Bands, with The Cosmoknights coming in first place and moving onto the finals on March 30. (Next Saturday’s second round will feature Squatch, Lost Magic, Ten Peso Version, Jon Hayes and Elspeth Tremblay & The Treatment.)
Earlier in the week, Grand Rapids’ Garbage Angel delivered infectious, spooky covers and more as part of the final week of Local Spins Wednesdays‘ “Tribute Month” at SpeakEZ Lounge. Next up: a pre St. Patrick’s Day party featuring Selkie and Firish on March 13.
Oh, and Kalamazoo-area music lovers were busy, too, with Celeste Allison, Lipstick Jodi and Public Universal Friend gracing Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe on Saturday, the same night that the Payton & Annabelle duo played to a packed house for their album-release show at The Clover Room (hours after performing a pop-up show at the Kalamazoo Fretboard Festival).
