West Michigan's music scene
California-bred punk had its evenings in the spotlight in Grand Rapids over the past week with tour stops by skate punk/pop-punk favorites The Offspring (with Bad Religion) at Van Andel Arena and punk/melodic hardcore band The Descendents (with Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls and Nobro) at GLC Live at 20 Monroe.
Meanwhile, Mersiv headlined Saturday’s “Heart Beat Rave Prom” at The Intersection, after gritty outlaw country artist and songwriter Ward Davis made an appearance at The Intersection’s Stache, and Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles brought his tour to Wealthy Theatre (in a show hosted by The Pyramid Scheme).
Michigan artists had some time in those spotlights, too, with Echoes of Pink Floyd returning to Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo and funk/rock/ska’s Melophobix delivering an upbeat night at Grand Rapids’ SpeakEZ Lounge.
