The last blast of summer (officially) arrived in many musical forms and in a slew of venues across West Michigan. And Local Spins has the photos to prove it.

It’s only apropos that West Michigan’s summer would end with a heat wave — not only when it comes to temperatures but a blast of sizzling music from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo.

West Michigan's music scene
In Grand Rapids, that included Of Montreal’s return to The Pyramid Scheme, Apocalyptica playing “Metallica by Four Cellos” at 20 Monroe Live, The Cottage Bar Chili Cookoff (with Mid-Life Crisis and Olivia Mainville & The Aquatic Troupe) and The Nick Moss Band killing it blues-wise at the Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill.
It also included Thursday’s sold-out show by Michigan’s own Greta Van Fleet at The Stache inside The Intersection. For a separate review/photo gallery: Greta Van Fleet proves in Grand Rapids show that the future of rock ‘n’ roll is in good hands
Just to the east, the Fallasburg Art Festival attracted thousands over two days with arts and crafts vendors, food and performances by nine bands, including the Jukejoint Handmedowns (who have a new studio album).
In Kalamazoo, not only did The Verve Pipe rock Bell’s Brewery Beer Garden in Kalamazoo, but the final Riversedge music series show revved things up outside Arcadia Ales with The Go Rounds, Slim Gypsy Baggage, Dacia Bridges (with special guest Carolyn Koebel) and The Copacetiks.
Up north outside Lake City, meanwhile, the Earthwork Harvest Gathering brought thousands to Bob Bernard’s farm for a weekend of music and camaraderie. Click here for separate recap/photo gallery: Earthwork Harvest Gathering off to ‘amazing’ sun-splashed start outside Lake City
