For this weekend’s concert roundup:
Local Spins traveled from Grand Rapids where an all-star ensemble paid tribute to Sierra Ferrell’s “Trail of Flowers” at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill and the new Big Room to spotlight a beloved singer with new music to Kalamazoo for a special Clover Room show featuring a singer-songwriter’s official release of a “99 Songs (Plus One)” album and to Old Dog Tavern for an early Halloween bash.
Check out the recaps below in words and images.
MOLLY AT THE BIG ROOM
An “illustrious band,” indeed, led by an even more illustrious and dynamic lead singer.
Grand Rapids soul singer Molly’s debut appearance at The Big Room in Grand Rapids on Saturday night proved to be everything that this much-admired West Michigan artist has become known for over the years: robust vocals fueled by an uber-energetic stage presence and insightful lyrics.
The day after releasing her first single in three years, “Come 2 Me,” Molly gave fans a healthy dose of her “future soul” music backed by that aforementioned band: Scott Schultz, Mike Savina, Christian VanDuinen and Evan Follmar, with special guests David Ward and Marcus Jordan.
Latin rock’s Cabildo opened the evening at The Big Room, which officially opened on Ottawa Avenue NW in late May — with plans for adding acoustic treatments to the 1,500-capacity venue starting next week.

ERIN MONROE & CO. AT TIP TOP DELUXE
With special guest Vespa on board, singer-songwriter Erin Monroe & Company presented an evening of Sierra Ferrell’s “Trail of Flowers” (the celebrated Americana artist’s 2024 album) at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill in Grand Rapids with an all-star band and enthusiastic crowd on hand.
“What do you call it when the dream comes true bigger and better than you dreamed it? That’s what it was,” Monroe declared on Instagram after the show.

ZERO SUN AT OLD DOG TAVERN
“Halloween started a tad early in Kalamazoo with Zero Sun and Sounds of the Zoo staging an all-ages show and costume party outside in the back yard at Old Dog Tavern. Faux Beamage from Three Rivers was a special guest to get the celebration started. Zero Sun played tunes from their debut album along with a few new songs while proving they’re an up-and-coming band to watch.
