West Michigan singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Max Lockwood had an uplifting, musical message for fans attending his album-release show for “Diamonds” at Midtown in Grand Rapids on Friday.

“Sometimes things don’t go the way we want them to,” he told the crowd. “For times like those, we’ve got rock ‘n’ roll.”
Indeed, with an all-star six-piece band of Michigan musicians backing him, Lockwood unfurled a rock-fueled set that also featured plenty of poignant, folkier moments.
It was just part of vigorous week of live music across the region, ranging from nationally renowned heavy metal acts (Trivium, Beartooth) rattling Grand Rapids to a Southwest Michigan acoustic artist (Megan Dooley) recording a live performance of new material at a Kalamazoo studio.
There was a big winner this weekend, too: Lowell country band Prior Noon took home the crown in the B93 Battle to the Bash at The Intersection on Saturday, assuring their spot at the B93 Birthday Bash at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park on June 17. Read more about Prior Noon here.
