As Christmas approaches, national and local acts this week gave their performances a holiday hue, captured in images from Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo — Conrad Shock to Megan Dooley — at Local Spins.

Even the musical comedy of The Dan Band — led by Dan Finnerty, who has a penchant for flaunting female-performed pop songs — took a holiday turn at 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids on Saturday night.
Of course, the band does have a Christmas album, “Ho: A Dan Band Xmas,” which provides ideal fodder for the group’s irreverent musical spoofing. And the show included an ugly sweater contest.
Elsewhere, The Pyramid Scheme on Friday hosted “Christmas at Critter’s,” featuring West Michigan’s The Legal Immigrants, Melophobix and Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys, who not only performed their usual fan faves but unleashed music from their collaborative new holiday album amid Santa hats, festive stockings and Christmas lights.
Kalamazoo’s weekend of Christmas cheer featured “Christmas at Gravity” with half of the Dacia Bridges Project and a holiday sing-along with Megan Dooley and Grace Gheen at Final Gravity Brewing, with The Appleseed Collective unfurling its string-band magic at Old Dog Tavern.
And in mid-week, The Ryne Experience made its debut (and official album release) at SpeakEZ Lounge for Local Spins Wednesdays, with Conrad Shock + The Noise headlining.
