Lots of musical goodies to devour the week after Easter, including Michigan acts Asamu Johnson, E Minor, The Extra Texture, Shane Tripp, PotatoeBabies and a ton of others at Jake’s Music Fest.

West Michigan's music scene
Spring break week for many didn’t mean taking a break from live music, because a broad mix of shows popped up all over West Michigan, some of it captured in images at Local Spins:
• Grand Rapids’ La Dispute launched the week at Calvin College on Tuesday with a homecoming show that offered up a different spin on its post-hardcore rock, a benefit for The DAAC (Division Avenue Arts Collective) that drew a solid though not capacity crowd;
• Asamu Johnson & The Associates of the Blues made their SpeakEZ Lounge debut in front of a lively crowd as part of the Local Spins Wednesdays series, with drummer Roberta Bradley creating a bit of a stir among some musicians in the audience who hadn’t seen her perform since her days with Roberta Bradley & Gypsy;
• Dopapod and East Lansing’s Desmond Jones turned up the heat for jam-band fans at The Stache inside The Intersection on Wednesday night;
• In a triple album-release show at Founders Brewing Co., Grand Rapids bands with a psych-rock bent — The Extra Texture, Shane Tripp and Matt Ten Clay & The Howlers — uncorked sets for an approving crowd on Thursday;
• The same night, northern Michigan singer-songwriter E Minor played One Trick Pony in Grand Rapids with bassist Caul Bluhm, following that with an in-studio performance for Local Spins on WYCE on Friday and a show at Rockford Brewing in Rockford on Saturday;

• Jake’s Music Festival literally cranked it up to “11” Saturday with a bevy of West Michigan bands at Wealthy Theatre in its 11th annual benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation — a rollicking and rousing affair that included sets by Spinal Tap tribute Sext Farm, PotatoeBabies, Otis Blueswell Jr., TruckStop Cobras, JOE, Emma Loo & Sam, Greg Nagy, Lipstick Jodi and Fathom 19. PotatoeBabies may have stolen this year’s show with its audience-interactive, toilet paper-and-vinyl-spewing, tight-and-rousing comedic rock but Sext Farm took no prisoners either, delivering over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek metal and prog-rock that would have made Nigel Tufnel and David St. Hubbins proud;
• While Indiana’s Houndmouth (with opener Parker Millsap) ignited The Intersection’s main showroom on Saturday with indie-rock, alt-country and roots rock, The Stache hosted the pop/rock of Ryan Cabrera, Secondhand Serenade and more.
• Yellowcard brought its national tour to Grand Rapids, wrapping up the weekend on Sunday night with a show at The Intersection.
