Festivalgoer Erin Kash may have said it best when it comes to describing the unique flavor of the Buttermilk Jamboree music festival at Circle Pines Center between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
“(Buttermilk) is super family-friendly and harbors the most welcoming music-loving community in Michigan,” Kash raved. “From bluegrass, rock, international and funk to R&B and indie-folk, there is something for everyone to love and easy to see why so many have made this a yearly family tradition.”
That yearly tradition was cut short of its 10th anniversary due to COVID in 2020, but Buttermilk Jamboree roars back this weekend with all of the coziness and fellowship that made it the No. 2 festival on Local Spins’ 2020 roster of “The Top 10 Michigan Music Festivals.”
With more than 40 performances on four stages over three days — not counting open-mic sessions hosted by Kalamazoo singer-songwriter Megan Dooley, who also plays a late-night set in the Beer Tent on Saturday — the festival also rolls out workshops, local food and merchandise vendors, craft beer and wine, kids’ activities, swimming and more.
The music kicks off on the Orchard Stage at 4 p.m. Friday with the Conklin Ceili Band and keeps right on rocking until the final 4:15 p.m. Sunday set by reggae’s Zion Lion. To whet your appetite, here’s a Local Spins Playlist featuring 20 of the performers who’ll be featured at this weekend’s festival.
Weekend tickets are $95 for adults, $25 for children, and available online here. Circle Pines Center is located at 8650 Mullen Road in Delton.
