MONDAY
ALICE COOPER
When: 8 p.m. Monday
Tickets: $47
Where: DeVos Performance Hall, Grand Rapids
Could the timing be any more appropriate than this? Alice Cooper plays Grand Rapids on Halloween week, bringing his pioneering and theatrical shock rock back to DeVos Performance Hall in what’s billed as “A Paranormal Evening with Alice Cooper.” The 70-year-old Detroit native released “Paranormal” last year (including a few tracks with the classic lineup of the Alice Cooper Band), but have no fear: Creepy Alice is performing all of the old favorites on this tour (which ends with the Grand Rapids show), such as “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” “Billion Dollar Babies,” “Cold Ethyl,” “I Love the Dead,” “Eighteen” and “School’s Out.”
Only a smattering of tickets, $47-$57, remained for this show early Monday. Get details, tickets online at devosperformancehall.com. And come back to Local Spins on Tuesday for a review and photo gallery.
OF MONTREAL
When: 8 p.m. Monday
Tickets: $25
Where: The Pyramid Scheme, Grand Rapids
Ever-artistic Georgia indie-pop band Of Montreal returns to West Michigan with its colorful display, touring behind its latest project, “White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood.” The band’s Grand Rapids tour stop is followed by a Chicago show, with the Kevin Barnes and his crew eventually making its way to the West Coast.
Also on the bill will be Locate S,1. Get tickets and details at pyramidschemebar.com.
TUESDAY
CANCELED: ERIC JOHNSON
When: 8 p.m. Tuesday
Tickets: $37.50 seated, $27.50 standing
Where: The Intersection, Grand Rapids
TUESDAY UPDATE: Eric Johnson’s Tuesday show at The Intersection has been canceled due to a family illness. The band issued this statement: “A critical illness in Eric’s family has necessitated the sudden cancellation of the remaining shows on the Ah Via Musicom tour. Eric deeply regrets the cancellation of these shows and hopes to reschedule all of them at a later date. Eric appreciates the support and goodwill of his fans during this difficult time.” Refunds are available at the point of purchase.
This special seated show at The Intersection stars a guy who’s truly an American guitar hero. Austin’s Eric Johnson, 64, is an electric guitar wizard who also cranks it out impressively on resonator guitar, lap steel, acoustic guitar and bass. He’s touring behind his most recent album, 2017’s “Collage,” and this is his only Michigan stop on this leg of that tour, which features original band members Tommy Taylor and Kyle Brock — playing “Ah Via Musicom” in its entirety.
WEDNESDAY
LOCAL SPINS WEDNESDAY:
BLUE WATER RAMBLERS
MICHIGAN MARK DEPREE
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Admission: Free
Where: SpeakEZ Lounge, Grand Rapids
It’s a late-October tradition, and this time it falls smack dab on Halloween night. Beloved West Michigan folk faves Blue Water Ramblers return to SpeakEZ Lounge for their annual soiree, filled with Michigan-hued ditties and fun folk frolicking – something definitely worthy of a costume party.
This time around, they’re also bringing along a special guest, Michigan Mark Depree. Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, Perrin Brewing Company and WYCE, with Michigan beer specials on tap and free parking in the Sixth Street Park lot off Monroe Avenue a block to the north.
MEWITHOUTYOU
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Tickets: $18 advance, $20 day of show
Where: The Pyramid Scheme, Grand Rapids
It’s the “[Untitled]” tour. Too-cute name for its latest album aside, Philadelphia rock/post-hardcore band MewithoutYou roars into Grand Rapids promoting its latest project, something Pitchfork described as “a dense, literary tangle of post-hardcore” and Riff Magazine called “a solid addition to one of the most compelling careers in modern rock music.”
Smidley and Davey & The Chains fill out the bill, with doors opening for this all-ages show at 7 p.m. Get the rest of the lowdown at pyramidschemebar.com.
THURSDAY
KENNY BARRON QUINTET
When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday
Tickets: $40-$45
Where: St. Cecilia Music Center, Grand Rapids
LOCAL SPINS TICKET GIVEAWAY: The first two people to email john@localspins.com with “KENNY BARRON” in the message field will win a pair of tickets to Thursday’s show. Check The Big List every week for your chance to win concert tickets.

Get tickets online here.
SISTER SPARROW & THE DIRTY BIRDS
When: 9:30 p.m. Thursday

Tickets: $33-$59.50

Get tickets at 20monroelive.com.
ARLO GUTHRIE “ALICE’S RESTAURANT TOUR”
SARAH LEE GUTHRIE
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $35-$125
Where: State Theatre, Kalamazoo
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 50 years since “Alice’s Restaurant” began being shown in theaters around the country. An adaption of the song, “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” written by folk legend Arlo Guthrie, the film has its definitive place in American counter-culture lore.
Guthrie, who has been charming audiences since the mid-1960s is now out on the road celebrating the anniversary of the film. The son of the great Woody Guthrie and father of Sarah Lee Guthrie, Arlo will no doubt regale the Kalamazoo audience with songs and stories for all ages. He will be joined by Sarah Lee, as both perform independent sets and share the stage together. Plenty of tickets remain and can be purchased at the State Theatre box office or online at kazoostate.com.
NOBODY’S GIRL
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $25-$35
Where: Seven Steps Up, 116 S. Jackson St., Spring Lake
In some circles, this Austin band would be considered a super-group. The acclaimed troubadours and songwriters Rebecca Loebe, Grace Pettis and BettySoo originally combined forces – “a chance for three like-minded peers to travel and perform together” – for a short tour, but ended up signing with Lucky Hound Music and recording its debut EP, “Waterline.” This is Nobody’s Girl‘s only Michigan tour stop.
Get tickets online at pindropconcerts.com, where you can also get the scoop on Tuesday’s Standing Room Only show with Virginia rock/country band Melodime ($20, $25) and Saturday’s Pin Drop Concert featuring Brian Dunne and Amy Petty ($20-$30).

When: 9 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $5
Where: Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Café, Kalamazoo
This is the album-release show for Kalamazoo rock band Jake Simmons & The Little Ghosts’ third full-length album, “Shake So Easy,” which will certainly involve a lot of loud, wall-shaking rock ‘n’ roll. Simmons recently was featured in-studio for Local Spins on WYCE, showing off his new tunes. Also on the bill will be The Mushmen and Sexy Toxins.
Bell’s follows this on Saturday with the return of West Michigan’s uber-popular folk-rockers The Crane Wives. Tickets for that show are $10 advance, $12 day of show; details at bellsbeer.com.
