Grand Rapids’ Fable the Poet talks about major upcoming shows, his spring tour and melding poetry with music on Edition No. 29 of Local Spins on WYCE, plus tracks from a host of local and regional bands.
For Fable the Poet, aka Marcel Price, poetry and spoken word performances are all about shifting pre-conceived notions and collaborating with some of West Michigan’s best musicians.

He’s done that with regular shows/open-mic nights at HopCat Detroit (Sundays), Stella’s Lounge (Monday’s “The Drunken Retort” sessions) and The Mix in Kalamazoo (Tuesdays), and with his upcoming “Cast Away” album which will include musical backing from world-class Kalamazoo-area musicians.
And fans can see dramatic evidence of that on March 20 at Grand Rapids’ Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill for “Everything Under the Sun,” a diverse and eclectic blend of music and poetry hosted by Tom Gunnels and featuring Zac Quist, Rachel Gleason, Jesse Ray & The Carolina Catfish, Lady Ace Boogie, Fable the Poet & The Gang and DJ Andre Skeezus Ford.
But that’s just the beginning: On April 30 at The Pyramid Scheme, Fable the Poet will host a “farewell party” of sorts as he begins his 10-week, 10-state national tour. That show will feature Dante Cope, A.B.,, Conway, MC Friendly, J Robb, Dreskeezus, Nortroniks and Pluto Monday. And when Fable returns, he hopes to release his much-anticipated album.
