West Michigan's music scene
Quinn Mathews has experienced the beauty and power of music from all sides — as a performer with the indie-folk duo Channing and Quinn, as community radio station WYCE’s manager overseeing “a world of music” on air, as a promoter and organizer of numerous concerts and events.
So while the recent announcement that Mathews will leave WYCE at the end of August to take the reins of a new and unique listening room venue planned for the much-ballyhooed Studio Park project south of Van Andel Arena may have caught some off guard, the new position is “a perfect fit,” according to Studio C president J.D. Loeks.
The story broken by Local Spins has generated lots of a traffic and a real buzz in the music community, so Local Spins publisher John Sinkevics and longtime listening room advocate Ralston Bowles (joining the conversation via feed from California) chatted with Mathews about plans for this 200-seat venue and why it’s a critical addition to West Michigan’s music scene.
