And with Grand Rapids outlaw country act The Bootstrap Boys playing a prime-time Saturday evening set at this weekend’s White Birch Music Festival outside Stanton, he’s champing at the bit to get things rolling.
“Excited to get the season started early as well,” Stilson told Local Spins. “Also, we love rural Michigan because they generally like to party as hard as we do.”
Let the party begin.
For the second year, the White Birch Music Festival will pump up Morelands Motocross Park an hour northeast of Grand Rapids with three days of music by regional stars on two stages, starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
This year’s lineup features acclaimed Michigan-bred singer-songwriters Joshua Davis & Rachael Davis, Ann Arbor jam band Act Casual, Southeast Michigan rock/Americana band The Gasoline Gypsies, northern Michigan’s Biomassive and Soul Patch, Grand Rapids’ Max Lockwood, Political Lizard, FlyLite Gemini and more.
Festival organizer Ryan Williams said bands are “really geared and geeked” for the second-year event, with a new sound and lighting company on board.
“Crazy weekend for me,” he conceded. “We are just bringing together an amazing artist community of hardworking humans.”
Williams said he’s grateful for the support of sponsors and ticket buyers, noting that the mission is to bring together “a community not used to this level of culture to meet each other, share in stories and overall find better ways to exist through real tangible connections.”
And with the outdoor mid-May festival being one of the first of the season, organizers and bands also are eager for some decent weather:
The forecast currently calls for temperatures in the 60s and 70s this weekend (with a chance of rain Saturday and Sunday).
White Birch is billed as a family-friendly festival with camping and a Kids’ Tent with children’s activities.
Tickets are $60 advance, $65 at the gate. Day passes are $30 for Friday or Sunday; $40 for Saturday. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.
