When WYCE-FM pops the cork on the 18th annual Jammie Awards show Feb. 10 at The Intersection, the community radio station will once again showcase sets by two dozen West Michigan artists – from established favorites to emerging stars.
The Go Rounds, The Accidentals, The Great Ones, Heaters, The Legal Immigrants, Jesse Ray & The Carolina Catfish, Kari Lynch Band, The Mainstays, Red Tail Ring and The Bootstrap Boys pump up this year’s roster of performers announced today by WYCE (88.1 FM).
Billed as the biggest night of the winter for the region’s music scene, with more than a dozen awards doled out for the best albums and songs of 2016, the evening also will boast short sets by Alexander Lynch, Bermudas, Channing & Quinn, Charlie Darling, Coffin Problem, Dante Cope, Emma Loo, Flushed, I Believe in Julio, Joe Shields, Plain Jane Glory, Public Access, Shamar Alef and Stepladders.
Singer-songwriter and Earthwork Music founder Seth Bernard will host the Jammies’ after-party.
“It’s a tremendous honor to have been asked to play the Jammies again this year,” said Joe Bockheim, frontman for The Legal Immigrants, a band nominated in several categories for its 2016 rock album, “Panacea.”
“So many acts and such short sets makes for an absolutely entrancing evening of entertainment.”
For first-time Jammies performers, it’s an opportunity to strut their stuff and rub elbows with dozens of other area musicians.
Electronic R&B singer and Upper Peninsula native Alexander Lynch said being chosen to play “means a lot to me because I feel as though I’ve been accepted and welcomed by the city of Grand Rapids. Coming from a different area, I think it’s amazing that I’ve gotten the love and support I have from the people of this city in just a year’s time.”
The Jammies offer a rare opportunity to many gigging musicians to see fellow artists perform.
“I love to watch talented artists in Grand Rapids get the attention and the credit they deserve,” Lynch said. “I’m honored to be a part of it.”
Another Lynch performing at the Jammies for the first time will be country singer Kari Lynch, who has earned widespread praise – and Jammie nominations – for her full-length 2016 studio album, “Little Games.”
“I’m so stoked to be a part of the show this year and to be up for some awards too,” she told Local Spins, praising the Jammies as “an event that celebrates the wonderful and diverse community of talented artists and musicians in West Michigan. I always look forward to watching the performances and seeing a lot of my peers and friends play in one place since we are all busy and don’t always get to attend one another’s shows.”
Joining Alexander Lynch and the Kari Lynch Band as first-time performers at the Jammie Awards at The Intersection in Grand Rapids will be 13 other acts: Bermudas, The Great Ones, Shama Alef, Stepladders, Public Access, Plain Jane Glory, The Mainstays, Joe Shields, I Believe in Julio, Heaters, Flushed, Emma Loo, Charlie Darling and Coffin Problem.
