MONDAY
THE MURLOCS
MOONWALKS
When: 9 p.m. Monday
Tickets: $15
Where: The Pyramid Scheme, Grand Rapids
Australia’s The Murlocs bring their U.S. tour to Grand Rapids, unleashing “their own blown-out, distorted brand of soulful R&B. Formed in early 2011 by harp player Ambrose Kenny-Smith, The Murlocs have already played alongside Thee Oh Sees, Graveyard Train and Dave Graney. Their up-tempo snare cracks and noisy doom guitar – accompanied by Ambrose’s vocal screech – has been described as a mesmerizing demented dance party,” according to the band website.
Opening the show will be Moonwalks. Details at pyramidschemebar.com.

WEDNESDAY

Warming up the stage will be one of Kalamazoo’s up-and-coming jazz acts of its own. With its self-titled debut full-length out just this past week, Lushh will get things started with its improvisational blend of music that shows off its affinity for jazz, electronica, rock and funk. LOCAL SPINS WEDNESDAY:
OLIVIA & THE AQUATIC TROUPE
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Admission: Free
Where: SpeakEZ Lounge, Grand Rapids
Ethereal and open-hearted, singer-songwriter and guitarist Olivia and her band The Aquatic Troupe are full of surprises. Their uptempo gypsy swing and baroque pop songs, accented with punchy horns, showcase a vaudeville flair. Other compositions soar into a spaghetti Western and chamber-pop sound, paring back the band’s tendency towards rich layers to reveal Mainville’s inspired vocals. Musicians like Django Reinhardt, Josephine Baker, Lee Hazelwood, and David Bowie have been a major influence, and Bowie’s guitar player and bandleader Gerry Leonard even played on their 2015 debut album, “Maybe The Saddest Thing.” The band’s distinctive sound makes for an unforgettable live show.
(The band also plays Rockford Brewing at 9:30 p.m. Friday and Old Dog Tavern in Kalamazoo at 10 p.m. Saturday.)
Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, Perrin Brewing and WYCE, with free parking in the small city lot kitty-corner from SpeakEZ just to the south on Monroe Avenue NW or the Sixth Street Park lot just to the north of SpeakEZ Lounge.

The Dip has spent the latter half of this decade electrifying audiences from its hometown of Seattle and throughout the Pacific Northwest. Melding vintage rhythm and blues, modern pop and ’60s soul, the seven-piece, fronted by Tom Eddy and fueled by “The Honeynut Horns,” has been deemed a band to watch by more than a few. The band has been hitting some big-time festival stages the past couple of summers, and are coming to Bell’s fresh off the release of sophomore LP, “The Dip Delivers.”
Fellow Northwesterners Moorea Masa & The Mood, of Portland, will warm up the backroom stage. Masa’s voice has been said to have “the power to move mountains, or to move grown men to tears.”

Where: Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe, Kalamazoo
Traverse City’s young indie-folk heroes The Accidentals performed more than 200 shows across the country last year. The trio of Savannah Buist, Katie Larson and Michael Dause will release that album into the wild this week and celebrate with what will no doubt be a packed house at Bell’s Thursday night. Read more about what the band has been up to, along with a review of the new album, later this week at Local Spins.
