For lovers of Celtic music, it’s time to kick up your heels.
On Friday and Saturday, the Sparta Celtic Festival delivers all manner of Irish and Scottish music to the stage at Rogers Park, not to mention dance troupes, “Highlander Games,” a car show, kids’ activities, a magician and more.
Ontario’s acclaimed Steel City Rovers lead the way — performing Friday evening and late Saturday afternoon — along with Whorled, The Barley Saints, Crossbow, Selkie, Wakefire, Leprecons and more regional favorites.
One of those emerging favorites, award-winning West Michigan world music trio Whorled which plays at 5 p.m. Friday, brings plenty of tradition to its performances, along with a modern twist.
“Each of us in the band brings something from our history with music to create the project,” noted accordionist Mariko Venema.
The entertainment at Rogers Park runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, and 10:15 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Balyeat Field will feature a car show, “Motorcycles for Mutts” and Highlander Games throughout the day on Saturday. The Kidz Area will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
