But this is also one of West Michigan’s busiest music festival weekends of the summer, a season reveling in its final vestiges before autumn sets in.
In addition to previously published Local Spins previews for this weekend’s Earthwork Harvest Gathering (Lake City), Grand Rapids African-American Festival (Grand Rapids) and Michigan Irish Music Festival (Muskegon), here are a few more music-rich celebrations you might have overlooked to spice up summer’s final flurry.
EASTOWN STREETFAIR
Just like last weekend’s Wheatland Music Festival (the granddaddy of Michigan music fests), Grand Rapids’ Eastown Streetfair hosted by the Eastown Community Association celebrates its 50th anniversary starting at 9 a.m. Saturday with vendors, food, beverages, WYCE-FM’s annual LP and CD sale, and a blast of live regional music that includes a toast to a genre also celebrating its 50th, hip hop.
The eclectic music lineup booked by Triumph Music Academy kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Saturday on Wealthy Street SE with the Celtic and world music charm of Selkie and continues deep into the evening with a hip-hop anniversary set curated by Monk Matthaeus and headlined by Euro-K.
