Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys, The Hacky Turtles, Austin Benzing, Epitones and Low Phase will rev up the summer-ending Perrin Brewing Backyard Bash in mid-September, with organizers anticipating their biggest crowd yet.
First launched in 2013, this year’s party starring the regional artists takes place Sept. 17 outside the Comstock Park brewery.
“With this year’s music selection, I wanted to do a mix of bigger names that I knew would bring people out – like Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys, Hacky Turtles – with some other on-their-way-to-greatness artists – Austin Benzing – as well as some personal local favorite that don’t quite get enough love – Epitones and Low Phase,” said Josh Hallwachs, Perrin’s general manager and event manager.
As a result, organizers hope to draw up to 5,000 people for this year’s party; between 2,500 and 3,000 attended last year’s bash headlined by Desmond Jones.
West Michigan’s rock-fueled country band Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys have cultivated a large and devoted following, with their 2014 single, “Standard American,” racking up more than 6.2 million listens on Spotify.
The Hacky Turtles, who also played last year’s Backyard Bash and released their most recent studio album, “Dichotomy.” in 2021, have long impressed fans with their high-energy funk and rock.
Austin Benzing (country), Epitones (psych-rock/fusion) and Low Phase (indie pop-rock) all have made inroads over the past year with new music and/or area performances.
Beer and food will be available, including selections from Perrin, Beer City Bread, Mata Tacos, Pizza Parliament, Outlaw Roasted Corn and Underground Cookie Club. Other vendors include Citizen Shirt, Rosebud & Lelu and others.
The event will also feature yard games, including Fowling Warehouse’s portable “football bowling” lanes for everyone to play, along with other yard games.
General admission tickets are $10 and available online here. There’s also a $50 VIP option that includes other goodies. Tickets will be sold at the gate. Food and beverage tickets will be available separately for $5 per ticket.
