Saxophonist Deon Yates, The Paul Keller at Sundown Quintet, Sheila Landis & Brazilian Love Affair, The Kinsey Report, Randy Marsh Organ Trio, Mind’s Eye, Edye Evans Hyde, The Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra and Phil Denny also are on the bill for the second-year festival, which announced its lineup today.
Organizers also have added a student jazz jam session as part of the Aug. 17-18 festival, which event founder Audrey Sundstrom says spotlights “an eclectic offering that expresses the full diversity of the jazz art form.”
In that vein, the 10-act lineup features Grand Rapids’ own Donald Kinsey, a renowned blues guitarist who performs with his brothers in the reggae-hued The Kinsey Report.
Admission to the two-day festival is free.
Students playing the GRandJazzFest jam are being selected for the performance through “auditions” being hosted every other Thursday by Steve Hilger and his TrioJazz band at Noto’s Old World Italian Dining on 28th Street SE. Get details about that online here in a Local Spins guest column by Hilger.
