Welcome to the new and improved Local Spins Weekend Photo Gallery, aimed at smoother and more enjoyable viewing from your home computer, laptop, smartphones, tablets and mobile devices.
The latest images represent a bracing weekend on a host of stages and musical fronts with Grand Rapids’ own Bowery opening for Minus the Bear at The Intersection, alt-rock’s ever-entertaining CAKE returning to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park (see the review and full photo gallery here), Honor By August returning for a two-night stand at Spring Lake’s Seven Steps Up, West Michigan’s Devin & The Dead Frets and The Love Hate opening for the Zoso Led Zeppelin tribute band, the Kari Lynch Band playing the outdoor Wyoming and Holland concert series, and legendary blues guitarist Johnny Winter lighting up Bell’ Brewery in Kalamazoo with his band.

And there was more: The fourth Buttermilk Jamboree at the picturesque Circle Pines Center in Delton unfolded with dozens of regional bands on two stages (check out more photos and a story from the opening day here; the festival continues through early Sunday evening) and Rockford’s Start of Summer Celebration boasted three beer tents and four stages of live music, with performances by a host of acts, including Junior Valentine, Jason Wheeler, Brandan Grinwis & Mark Lavengood, Roosevelt Diggs, 13th Hour, Hannah Rose & the GravesTones, Third Time Lucky, Agent 87, The Outer Vibe and more. (Valentine & Wheeler provided a different sort of Led Zep vibe; check out a video of their version of “When the Levee Breaks” below.)

For those who appreciate great guitarist Johnny Winter at Bell’s was the place to be this past Saturday. He may be old and frail but when he sits down with his guitar he surprisignly comes to life. Overall a great crowd, great song selection, and an excellent blues rock performance. Johnny was awesome but so was his band, never seen a tighter blues band. Here’s a snippet from the show:
