The third-year music festival unfolding Tuesday-Sunday at Smiling Acres in Trufant boasts performances by a wide array of artists, from Alisabeth Von Presley to The Rebel Eves. The Local Spins preview.

Terms such as “inclusive,” “community,” “connection,” “equitable” and “possibilities” drive the 2024 edition of Michigan Fern Fest.
The festival that kicks off Tuesday (July 9) on the Smiling Acres site outside Trufant runs through Sunday with performances by artists “curated specifically for women, nonbinary and trans folks and those that live on the spectrum of the feminine spirit,” said Abra Wise, producer of Fern Fest.
Headlined by the likes of Alisabeth Von Presley, who’s described as a “sequin-studded pop artists from Iowa,” Angel Davanport, Bride and Fighting Futures, the festival also features Michigan acts such as The Rebel Eves and Jes Kramer.

“It is a priority at Fern Fest to create an inclusive and equitable environment where everyone in our community can show up as their authentic selves,” Wise said. “We are on a collective journey to learn and grow together in order to build that space.”
Wise said she spends “a great deal of time selecting artists” for the festival, which also features “engaging workshops, games and activities, craft and food vendors and more.”
It’s the first year that Michigan Fern Fest has been held in Trufant, with the previous two festivals taking place in Walkerville, Mich.
“I’m excited for this transition year to explore new possibilities and feel out where we’d like to grow and expand as a festival and community in future years,” she said. “We have an amazing lineup with artists from around the country.”
