For Grand Rapids rock band Lokella, mid-Michigan multi-instrumentalist Eric O’Daly and West Michigan singer-songwriter Kyle Rasche (aka Chain of Lakes), this week was all about delivering long-awaited release shows for new studio recordings — with Lokella pumping up The Pyramid Scheme on Saturday, Eric O’Daly, Max Lockwood and an all-star band playing Listening Room on Thursday and Chain of Lakes with Dave & Kristi at Listening Room on Friday.
For Greensky Bluegrass guitarist Dave Bruzza, it was about a special homecoming show on Saturday at Kalamazoo’s Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe, with Bruzza’s Unsafe at Any Speed regaling a big crowd with its “rock ‘n’ roll-tinged country and Western with new surf-rock instrumentals,” according to Local Spins photographer Derek Ketchum.
Then there were all those fan-pleasing tour stops: folk icon Shawn Colvin on Thursday at St. Cecilia Music Center; country’s Rachel Brooke from northern Michigan and singer Hannah Rose Graves from Grand Rapids at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill on Friday; reggae’s The Wailers on Thursday and reggae/pop’s Iration (with Tropidelic) on Saturday at The Intersection.
