The 75th edition of Local Spins on WYCE boasted an performance by The Bootstrap Boys, tracks from a host of Jammie Award nominees and new music from Rip VanRipper and Reviving the Era.
It just seems like Jake Stilson was destined to sing vintage-styled country music and form a country band.

He wrote his first country song when he was 16, but it wasn’t until he formed The Bootstrap Boys last year that the Grand Rapids singer-songwriter finally pulled the trigger on his outlaw country passion.
“Country music is a good genre for story-telling,” said Stilson, who hopes the band will release a follow-up recording to its “Country Songs for Sale” EP later this year as well as tour the country in their band RV, affectionately dubbed Delta Dawn.
“I’ve been getting a lot of, ‘Jake you should have done this sooner. You sound like you’re in your element.’ It took quite a sojourn for me to make my way back around to playing country music again and to come to grips with that being OK.”

The band — Stilson, drummer Jon Pataky, guitarist Nick Alexander and bassist Josh McBryde (aka, Big Jake, Jonny, Nicky and Clyde Bootstrap) — uncorked a pair of its entertaining country tunes in Studio X during this week’s Local Spins on WYCE show. They’ll be performing at the Jammie Awards at The Intersection on Feb. 19, Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill on Feb. 20 and joining Valentiger for the Local Spins Wednesdays show at SpeakEZ Lounge on March 2.
The Feb. 12 edition of Local Spins on WYCE also featured the debut of new songs by Grand Rapids rock bands Reviving the Era and Rip VanRipper, as well as tracks from May Erlewine, Don Middlebrook, Rick Chyme & Nixon, Jesse Ray & The Carolina Catfish, The Legal Immigrants, Scott Pellegrom and Vincent Hayes.
