Episode No. 59 of Local Spins on WYCE was a special Fund Drive affair, with an in-studio performance by Shane Tripp and the debut of songs by Jared Sjoblom, Frederic & Ronza and many more regional acts.

He picked up a guitar at age 10, and started writing songs not long after, eventually playing with bands such as The Sleeping Tribune, Petals Rang the Bell, Haunted Leather and Crooked Arrow.

Inspired by ’90s acts such as Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis, Wyoming, Mich., native Shane Tripp has brought some of that decade’s musical vibe to his solo projects, recording three albums since 2009: “Trane Shipp,” “A Messy Message” and “Silk Challenge” (which was released earlier this year).
He’a also found inspiration in the local and regional music he hears on WYCE-FM (88.1).
“I think it’s really cool to have a station in Grand Rapids that plays local stuff because a lot of the local bands here are better than a lot of the mainstream stuff,” Tripp insisted during Friday’s special Fund Drive edition of Local Spins on WYCE.
Tripp performed two songs acoustically in the studio, including “I Don’t Make Noise” from “Silk Challenge.” Check out a video of “I Don’t Make Noise” below, with the podcast from Friday’s show here.
Tripp also perform live on Saturday night at Founders Brewing Co. in Grand Rapids, a show headlined by Heaters, with Moonwalks and Coffin Problem also on the bill. The show starts at 9:30 p.m.; admission is $5.
The Local Spins on WYCE episode also featured the debut of tracks by The Great Indoors, Fred Knapp Trio, Laura Rain & The Caesars, Jared Sjoblom and Frederic & Ronza. New material from Borns, Matt Ten Clay & The Howlers and Brother Adams was also part of the show.
