On the same day that Joshua Davis “opened” for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in a campaign appearance in Traverse City, the Michigan singer-songwriter announced that he’ll be releasing his first new recording since finishing third on NBC’s “The Voice” last year.

Davis revealed Friday that he’ll be releasing a new seven-inch record on vinyl and in digital formats, featuring two new original songs – “Always Going to Be Here” and “Let Me In” – recorded in Ann Arbor last fall. The new music will be released in April.
The announcement came the same afternoon that Davis performed at a political rally for Sanders in Traverse City.
“Guess who’s playing tunes at the Bernie Sanders rally in Traverse City today? No, not Ted Nugent,” Davis proclaimed on his Facebook page. “Yours truly. I’m honored and #feelingthebern.” (Sanders is also appearing at Grand Valley State University in Allendale on Friday evening.)
Davis later told Local Spins that he had a “great time at the rally.”
In a prepared statement, Davis called the new material “love songs. They’re all heart. I wanted the production to be stripped down and allow that to shine through. I’m honored to be able to play and record with some of the best musicians and people in the world. They make it easy.”

Since earning widespread acclaim, building his national audience and placing several songs in the iTunes Top 10 during his impressive run on “The Voice,” Davis not only has played a number of high-profile, full-band concerts in his home state but also has toured nationally as a solo artist.
The Traverse City-based musician also spent time writing new material for his first official release since 2013’s “A Miracle of Birds.”
“After ’The Voice,’ it was such a joy to record again on my own terms,” he said. “It was a joyful, fluid, organic process and I hope that comes through on the tracks.”
West Michigan fans can see Davis in concert when he plays Holland’s Park Theatre at 8 p.m. March 19, with special guest May Erlewine. Advance tickets are $20. Get tickets and details online here.
