West Michigan's music scene
When it comes to comedy in West Michigan, the options are honestly as bountiful as the breweries.
Grand Rapids, while famous for its many artisan craftspeople, farm-to-table restaurants and unique microbreweries, also serves as home to a vibrant and varied comedy scene fostered by veteran performers that showcase a diverse lineup of comedic voices.
After first relocating to Grand Rapids from Los Angeles in 2013, I was introduced to an eclectic group of comics who immediately welcomed me in and championed my progress on stage. As my comedy career pivoted from stand-up to working in television writers’ rooms, I took a nine-year hiatus before starting stand-up (for the second time) back in fall 2023. When I returned to the stage, that same warm and encouraging energy was there to welcome me back.
In this first edition of Local Grins, I’ll introduce you to the folks and shows that make Michigan an amazing place for comedians and comedy lovers alike. Here’s a (working, non-definitive) list of the shows that make West Michigan to Lansing the place to be for anyone who loves to laugh.
