EDITOR’S NOTE: The contest deadline has passed. Winners will be announced at Spins on Music on Friday, Feb. 15.
What a big baby.
Officially celebrating its 1st birthday this month, the Spins on Music website has gone from crawling to toddling to strutting around town and getting into all kinds of wondrous musical trouble in its first year of spotlighting West Michigan’s music scene.
And this precocious baby – who must have been exposed to Mozart, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Steve Earle in the womb – couldn’t have hit the 110th percentile on the growth chart without the nourishment and encouragement of readers, musicians, advertisers and music devotees who appreciate Spins on Music’s stories and features: the weekly Big List Concert Guide, Local Spins Live Artist of the Week profiles and videos, Weekend Photo Galleries of area concerts, Musicians’ Soundboard guest columns, West Michigan music news updates, Local Spins album reviews and more.
So to reward those supporters and show love for the faithful as Valentine’s Day approaches, Spins on Music is giving out some birthday gifts: A pair of tickets to a dozen different shows – including concerts, a music festival and a comedy revue – at a host of venues across West Michigan over the next few months. That’s 12 shows to represent the first 12 months of Spins on Music.

It Adds Up to Free Tickets: Mutemath is part of the “Spins on Music is My Valentine” grand prize package.
The “Local Spins is My Valentine” package valued at more than $500 is sure to warm the passionate heart of any music lover with eclectic tastes. And a second-place winner will receive a special “Local Spins” package featuring tickets to two upcoming Local Spins Live concerts at St. Cecilia Music Center, the Unknown Mortal Orchestra show at Hope College, a copy of the Local Spins Album of the Year by Simien the Whale, and a gift certificate to Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill.
It’s a snap to enter. Just describe what you love most about Spins on Music (or tell us your favorite Local Spins Live artist of the week from the past year) and email your entry to jsinkevics@gmail.com, with “Spins on Music is My Valentine” in the message field by 5 p.m. Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14). Please make sure you include your full name, hometown and a phone number where you can be reached.
One lucky winner of the grand prize will be selected at random from all entries, with another chosen at random for the second-place Local Spins Live package. The grand prize package includes a pair of tickets to:
