That there are more than 130 concert series in Local Spins’ Free Outdoor Community Concerts 2023 Guide says an awful lot about the opportunities that Michigan bands — and fans of Michigan music — have in nearly every corner of the state.
with a family-friendly vibe that celebrates Michigan’s great outdoors, the shows draw thousands to parks, plazas and riversides nearly every day of the week.
Take Allegan’s Rollin’ on the River which kicks off Friday (June 9) with Grand Rapids rock band The American Hotel System and continues through Aug. 25, with such renowned regional acts as Cabildo, Full Cord, Asamu Johnson & The Associates of the Blues, The Mainstays and Elijah Russ Collective on the summer schedule
Big Rapids, meanwhile, boasts music in Hemlock Park on Wednesdays (starting with the Ferris Community Summer Band on June 21) and in Pocket Park on Fridays (with Still Wonder playing June 9). Cedar Springs spotlights music the same two nights, with Verus kicking off the “Music in the Heart” series at Heart of Cedar Springs Park on June 21 and Wyatt & Shari Knapp launching the Friday series at Solon Township’s Velzy Park on June 9.

Hastings rolls out five different series on Wednesdays and Fridays — morning, noon and night, featuring everything from Jake Kershaw to the Grand Rapids Symphony — while Coopersville’s Pocket Park started up its “Music on Main” series last month, hosting Rusty & The Razorblades for its next show on June 14. Trufant kicks off its Wednesday night Music in the Park series this week with Porter Kenyon at Petersen Park on June 7.
Mondays have been a live music tradition in East Grand Rapids for years, with Cordero kicking off this year’s Concerts in the Park at Collins Park on June 12; Tuesdays are the tradition in Wyoming, with The Reverend Jesse Ray getting things started on June 13.
Grand Rapids’ long-running Celadon Summer Concert Series on the city’s Northeast Side gets heated up June 14 with Serita’s Black Rose, followed by Prior Noon (June 30), Deerfield Run (July 14), Dave’s at 7 (July 21) and Adaboy! (Aug. 4).
And there are many more to choose from in Holland, Greenville, Gull Lake, Kalamazoo, Ludington, Manistee, Middleville, Zeeland and just about anywhere else you can land on any given night.
Local Spins maintains the only comprehensive guide to these free community concerts, and today, we reveal lineups for several of them, with many more in our Free Outdoor Community Concerts 2023 Guide.
