Spring is in the air, almost. Live music certainly was in the air around Grand Rapids as March rolled on and the clocks sprung forward. Here’s part of the weekend shared in photos at Spins on Music.

A gorilla walked into a bar, pulled up a stool and ordered a beer. The bartender poured him a mug, slid it over to him and said, “That’ll be $7.” The gorilla paid for his brew and the bartender said, “You know, we don’t get many gorillas in here.” The gorilla looked up and replied: “At seven bucks a beer, it’s no wonder.”
The jokes and beer were flowing — and downtown streets and parking lots were packed to the gills — as Laughfest kicked into high gear this weekend. But that didn’t mean that things slowed down on the live music front: Photos shared at Spins on Music included singer-songwriter Seth Bernard in a solo show at Rockford Brewing, Flyleaf and Drowning Pool rocking The Intersection, singer-songwriter Elisabeth Pixley-Fink and band (Mike Shimmin, Graham Parsons, Sam Cooper, Andy Catlin, and Joel Pixley-Fink) playing the CD-release show for her “Bloodroot” album at Kalamazoo’s Old Dog Tavern, Minneapolis singer-songwriter Ben Kyle playing an intimate concert at Stone House Recording, Ann Arbor’s The Appleseed Collective and Illinois’ Whistle Pigs pounding it out at Founders Brewing, An Dro turning up the world music vibe at One Trick Pony, and Ruth & Max Bloomquist (with band) strumming up their folk thing at Zellie’s Opry House in Howard City.
