It was another lively week of concerts across West Michigan, with country, electro-pop, hard and soft rock, and the music of tomorrow’s stars just part of the story. Ogle the photo galleries at Local Spins.
If Australian soft-rock heroes Air Supply — led by 69-year-old Russell Hitchcock and 68-year-old Graham Russell — represent the nostalgic baby-boomer side of West Michigan’s mid-August concert lineup, than the kids and teens of Girls Rock! Grand Rapids represent the musical heroes of tomorrow.

West Michigan's music scene
So, the same day that Local Spins captured Air Supply in a rescheduled concert at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, photographer Veronica Leigh Anderson checked in on the young musicians attending the week-long Girls Rock! Camp at Cook Arts Center in Grand Rapids to for some behind-the-scenes images of stars-in-the-making. (Those girls celebrated with friends, family and fans a few days later at the sixth annual summer showcase at Wealthy Theatre.)
The week also boasted the Grand Rapids return of alt-rock’s Daughtry (along with pop’s Sinclair) at 20 Monroe Live, country star Kip Moore headlining Moosefest at Muskegon’s Heritage Landing (with Trent Harmon, Abby Anderson, Travis Denning, Mitchell Tenpenny, Tenille Arts and Bari Lee also on the bill), rock’s Can’t Swim and Microwave heating up The Pyramid Scheme, and electro-pop FINKEL (a Michigan product on a homecoming tour) and Basic Comfort playing Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo. (Read more about FINKEL, formerly Less is More, in this Local Spins story.)
