It’s only apropos that Scottish synth-pop band Chvrches would wrap up its main set at Grand Rapids’ GLC Live at 20 Monroe on Friday with 2018’s “Never Say Die.”
After two years of COVID-impaired touring, the never-say-die, pent-up energy on stage and in the audience was obvious — and symbolic of a robust kickoff to a weekend of live music across the region.
While Chvrches revved up its fans in downtown Grand Rapids, Rockford was rolling out the second day of its Start of Summer celebration with bands in several different locations: rock’s Trixy Tang in the Lions Beer Tent, jam band Desmond Jones in the Rockford Brewing beer tent and country’s Bronk Bros. on Main Street.
And that followed Thursday’s opening salvo with American’s Roosevelt Diggs entertaining an enthused crowd in the Rockford Brewing tent.
Earlier in the week, and despite a 30-minute rain daley, Listening Room and Studio Park officially kicked off the 2022 “Listening Lawn” series outdoors with The Insiders Tom Petty tribute band led by Max Lockwood. The six-person band played Petty classics and deep cuts late into the evening.
