After touring the country as the Channing & Quinn indie-folk duo for years and moving to Grand Rapids from Nashville, Quinn Mathews and Channing Lee have enjoyed a unique perch from which to absorb and embrace West Michigan’s music scene.

Mathews eventually took a job as manager of community radio station WYCE-FM, reveling in the diverse regional music showcased regularly on-air – something dramatically demonstrated during Friday’s edition of Local Spins on WYCE, which debuted tracks by folk, funk, indie-rock acts and more.
Lee, meanwhile, has been touring the land as a member of the multi-platinum-selling Michigan-bred alt-rock band The Verve Pipe, unleashing rock-styled vocals for the first time while continuing to perform as part of Channing & Quinn, who formed as a duo more than a dozen years ago.
They’ll readily concede that their exposure to West Michigan talented music community has enriched their own art.
“Any time you’re around bands and listening to new music … it can be very inspiring. That’s always a good thing,” Lee said, during the duo’s appearance Friday for Local Spins on WYCE which included the band’s multi-instrumental approach, from banjo and guitar to clogging.
