NF, NIGHTLY
When: 8 p.m. Monday
Tickets: SOLD OUT
Where: 20 Monroe Live, Grand Rapids
He’s done it again. For the second straight year, Christian rapper NF has sold out this Grand Rapids venue with his highly acclaimed, nationally recognized talents. The native of Gladwin, Mich., (aka Nate Feuerstein) continues to draw big crowds and attention for recordings that have topped Christian albums charts.
But he’s even upped the ante further with his third and latest album, “Perception,” which was released in October through Capitol CMG and NF Real Music and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. And all but a few dates on his current North American tour have sold out. Read more about NF at Local Spins here.
THE JETBEATS @ LOUDER THAN WORDS: BRITISH INVASION
When: 6 p.m. Wednesday
Admission: Registration Closed
Where: Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, Grand Rapids
The last day for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s exhibit “Louder Than Words: Rock, Power and Politics,” examining the relationship between modern music and politics, is Sunday. The museum is sending the exhibit off to the William J. Clinton Presidential Museum in Little Rock, Ark. propelled by Grand Rapids band The Jetbeats, whose British Invasion-style presentation is an apt fit for the topic of this final get-together.
Longtime West Michigan disc jockeys Rob Brandt, Michelle McKormick, Kevin Matthews and Andy Rent, with moderator Jay Allen, will have a discussion that harks back to the early 1960s when the likes of The Beatles, The Who and The Kinks crossed the pond and revolutionized America.
LOCAL SPINS WEDNESDAY:
THAT BEATLES THING
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Admission: Free
Where: SpeakEZ Lounge, Grand Rapids
The inaugural “Local Spins Wednesdays Tribute Month at SpeakEZ Lounge” kicks off with a band paying homage to what rightly is considered the greatest and most influential rock band of all time: The Beatles. That Beatles Thing led by guitarist-singer James Murphy has become a big draw in the Grand Rapids area with its robust renditions of classics by The Fab Four, making this the perfect way to launch a month of tribute shows (with Kathy Lamar’s Valentine’s Day show on Feb. 14 featuring Sade tunes and various love songs, The Honeytones unfurling Grand Rapids’ first-ever Steve Earle tribute night on Feb. 21 and Jack Leaver performing his Tom Petty tribute on Feb. 28).
Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by SpeakEZ Lounge, Local Spins, Perrin Brewing Company and WYCE. As always, there are Michigan beer specials on tap, and free parking in the lot kitty-corner from SpeakEZ on Monroe Avenue NW.
MARILYN MANSON
AMAZONICA
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Tickets: $60
Where: 20 Monroe Live, Grand Rapids
So, for those willing to give shock-rocker/industrial metalist Marilyn Manson credit, the attention-getting singer has managed to continue injecting fresh life into his career, with his latest album, “Heaven Upside Down,” earning favorable reviews from critics and debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart after it was released in October.
He’ll wrap up his U.S. tour later this month and heads overseas to Europe in May. By the way, he’s injured himself more than once while performing the new album, which at one point required dates to be rescheduled.
ROBBIE FULKS
When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday
Tickets: $20-$30
Where: Seven Steps Up, Spring Lake
Local Spins considers it a real coup that this Spring Lake listening room has snagged a tour stop by singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks, an underrated artist of the highest caliber. The Grammy-nominated, alt-country singer and guitarist, who is based in Chicago, has released more than a dozen albums during his career, including the highly acclaimed and nominated recording “Upland Stories,” which was released in 2016.
His witty and insightful material is difficult to pigeonhole, but terrifically entertaining. He follows up his West Michigan show with a stop Friday at Green Wood Coffee House in Ann Arbor. Get tickets for the Spring Lake concert at pindropconcerts.com.

Chaffee Planetarium as part of the Concerts Under The Stars series, with video art soaring above the performer and the audience.

LUKE WINSLOW KING
10 STRING SYMPHONY
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $30
Where: Tri-Cities Historical Museum, 200 Washington Ave., Grand Haven
The Red House Concert Series’ “Music at the Museum” continues with Michigan native Luke Winslow King, who spent years in New Orleans absorbing the amazing mix of Delta blues, jazz and more, and weaving it into his own incredible folk and roots rock music while touring the globe. He recently moved back to Michigan and has been regaling home state audiences with his distinctive genre-melding music.
10 String Symphony, the other performance of the evening, is a Nashville-based fiddle duo made up of Rachel Baiman and Christian Sedelmyer. Their voices join together perfectly in every song to create a beautiful album. Just as smooth a blend as the performers’ voices, their instruments create a perfect backdrop, upon which they lay their immersive lyrics and storytelling. They are primed to drop a new album of 10 songs.
“10 String Symphony is one of the most anticipated bands we have coming to this season of ‘Music at the Museum’ in Grand Haven,” said Jack Clark, co-organizer of Red House Concert Series and the Music at the Museum Series. “We knew that 10 String Symphony is a band that most have never heard before. We often hear people at our shows tell us that even if they have never heard of an artist before, they know they will enjoy, because they trust our judgment and our track record for bringing talent to West Michigan. That’s something we truly appreciate.”
Get details and tickets online at tri-citiesmuseum.org.

He’s played this terrific listening room before and it’s always been an entertaining evening. Details at pindropconcerts.com. (Grand Haven’s Chris Wiser and Melanie Marod will open Sunday’s show.)
THE VERVE PIPE, SPONGE
When: 8 p.m. Saturday
Tickets: $18-$38
Where: 20 Monroe Live, 11 Ottawa Ave. NW, Grand Rapids
LOCAL SPINS TICKET GIVEAWAY: Congratulations to reader Chris O’Connor. He was the first person to email john@localspins.com with “THE VERVE PIPE” in the message field and won a pair of tickets to Saturday’s show. Visit The Big List every week for a chance to win concert tickets.
Platinum-selling, Michigan-based alt-rock band The Verve Pipe may be best known for some of its giant 1990s hits (including “The Freshmen”), but the band has also made a splash with more recent albums such as 2014’s “Overboard,” and 2017’s “Parachute,” both of which may have been among rock’s most underrated albums released in their respective years. Detroit’s Sponge, which also first emerged onto the scene in the 1990s, will open the Grand Rapids show.
Read more about The Verve Pipe and its return to 20 Monroe Live later this week in an interview with frontman Brian Vander Ark at Local Spins. Get tickets online at 20monroelive.com.
WAYLAND
When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Tickets: $15 in advance, $25 day of show
Where: Bell’s Eccentric Cafe, Kalamazoo
The hard-rocking Wayland actually offers fans two types of shows in West Michigan this week. First up is an 8 p.m. acoustic-style show at Unruly Brewing Co., 360 W. Western Ave. in Muskegon on Wednesday night, where Grand Rapids’ The Autumnatic will also entertain. Tickets, $8, are available online here.
Wayland — yes, bred in and named after the Allegan County city off of U.S. 131 — also is selling VIP packages at the band’s website. On Saturday Bell’s Eccentric Cafe hosts Wayland’s 21+-only show in Kalamazoo with openers Sixes And Sevens and Autumn’s Fall. Check for Bell’s tickets here. Wayland seems to have made a smooth transition last year to new drummer Nigel Dupree as the tour continues behind their September release “Rinse & Repeat,” with the single “Through The Fire” reaching #35 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Charts. Not bad for a band that found its start back in 2010 on the airwaves of Grand Rapids radio station WGRD and Allegan County stages like McDuff’s and Wayland Hotel. Wayland’s work week also takes the boys to Westland, Fort Wayne, Ind. and Saginaw.
(On Friday, Unruly Brewing offers pop-rock bands The Stick Arounds and The Deputies; more on the schedule here.)
Bell’s kicks off the weekend with The Dustbowl Revival and Kuinka on Thursday and Eric Paslay plus Sarah Lynn Band on Friday. Details and tickets available online here.
