The band brings its “15 Years in the Making” tour to West Michigan this week, with Papa Roach, Falling in Reverse and The Devil Wears Prada also pumping up this hard-rocking bill. CATALDO
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Tickets: $12 advance, $15 day of show

LOCAL SPINS WEDNESDAY:
STEVE EARLE TRIBUTE W/ THE HONEYTONES & GUESTS
When: 8 p.m. Wednesday
Admission: Free
Where: SpeakEZ Lounge, Grand Rapids
“Local Spins Wednesdays Tribute Month at SpeakEZ Lounge” continues with West Michigan’s first-ever tribute to Steve Earle. Starting with 1986’s landmark debut album, “Guitar Town,” Steve Earle has created some of the most enduring American music of the past three decades — songs that span alt-country, rock, outlaw country, folk and even pop, but all reflecting his rebellious spirit and his uncanny ability to turn a simple concept into a brilliant turn of a phrase.
Grand Rapids rock band The Honeytones have performed Earle’s tunes since the 1980s, so it’s only apropos that they should host a tribute to his music, with special guests Jim Spalink, Roger Brown and Max Lockwood joining them for parts of the evening. Expect to hear Earle classics such as “Copperhead Road,” “Galway Girl,” “Someday,” “The Revolution Starts Now,” “The Devil’s Right Hand” and more during this special night.
Local Spins Wednesdays are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, Perrin Brewing Company and WYCE, with Michigan beer specials on tap and free parking in the lot on Monroe Avenue NW, kitty-corner from SpeakEZ. Next week, it’s Jack Leaver’s tribute to Tom Petty.
GALACTIC
When: 9 p.m. Wednesday
Tickets: $20 advance, $25 day of show
Where: The Intersection, Grand Rapids
LOCAL SPINS TICKET GIVEAWAY: Congratulations to readers Jeff Sluiter and Lauren DeLuca. They were the first two people to email john@localspins.com with “GALACTIC” in the message field and won a pair of tickets to Wednesday’s concert. Check The Big List every week for your chance to win concert tickets.
It seems incredible, but Galactic has been roaming the universe since the mid-1990s, churning out its New Orleans-bred funk, jazz fusion and R&B over the course of 11 albums and countless live performances. Its most recent CD, “Into the Deep,” featured guest appearances by stars Macy Gray, J.J. Grey, David Shaw, Mavis Staples and others, and the band currently is in the midst of an ambitious national tour that runs through March (with a stop at Detroit’s St. Andrew’s Hall on Saturday).
Special guest Butcher Brown is part of Wednesday’s 16-and-older show, with doors opening at 8 p.m. Get more info online at sectionlive.com.
BLAKE SHELTON
When: 7:30 p.m. Thursday
Tickets: $54.50-$94.50
Where: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids
These days, country singer Blake Shelton is known as much for his high-profile role as a judge on “The Voice” (and as a celebrity) as he is for his chart-topping country music. But he’s dubbed his current national tour the “Country Music Freaks” tour so he’s obviously ready to entertain his fans with songs from his latest album, “Texoma Shore,” as well as the Oklahoma native’s monster singles “Austin,” “The Baby,” “Some Beach,” “Home,” “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” “All About Tonight,” “Honey Bee,” “Sure Be Cool if You Did” and many more.
He also happens to be bringing along a star-studded lineup of openers: Brett Eldredge, Carly Pearce and Trace Adkins. Get tickets online at vanandelarena.com.

His tour brings along another star, Lil Bibby, in this stop presented by Pete’s House and By a Thread. The all-ages show does offer VIP meet-and-greet packages for each performer. Details online at sectionlive.com.
BELA FLECK & ABIGAIL WASHBURN
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Tickets: SOLD OUT
Where: St. Cecilia Music Center, Grand Rapids
Grand Rapids has always been happy to welcome this married banjo duo, Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn, or Bela Fleck and his band, The Flecktones, and this sold-out show, part of St. Cecilia Music Center’s Acoustic Café Series, is no exception. The Grammy winners will make you re-think your assumptions about what a banjo should sound like as they tour behind 2017 release “Echo In The Valley,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Bluegrass Albums Chart. “The best stuff doesn’t always come out of agreement,” Fleck told Billboard Magazine last year. “Because we didn’t always agree on our ideas we had to debate for them and fight for them and find a way to embrace each other’s ideas. It wasn’t comfortable all the time.” But what a nice result.
CHASE RICE
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $25-$75
Where: 20 Monroe Live, Grand Rapids
This is billed as a “Road to Faster Horses” show (with Live Nation also hosting the big Faster Horses Festival in Brooklyn, Mich., in July). Chase Rice is touring behind his fourth and latest album, “Lambs & Lions,” which features the single, “Three Chords & The Truth,” though odds are he’ll also be performing previous big hits such as “Ready Set Roll,” “Gonna Wanna Tonight and “Whisper.”
Also on the bill for this tour stop is the James Barker Band. Get tickets and details online here.
HARRIS + LAVENGOOD + STURGILL
When: 8 p.m. Friday
Tickets: $25-$35
Where: Seven Steps Up, Spring Lake
This unique Pin Drop Concerts show captures talent from near and far for one night on a single stage. A Houston native, Jason Hawk Harris was captivated by the combination of rock ‘n’ roll and with orchestral arrangements offered by Queen. With a degree in music composition, he found a niche in 20th and 21st century classical music, but Harris was also captivated by country music, and this blend colors his November 2017 EP “Formaldehyde, Tobacco and Tulips.” Meanwhile, Grand Rapids’ dobro master Mark Lavengood, who parted amicably last year with burgeoning bluegrassers Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, is tearing up regional stages with his band and in a wide variety of projects. Spring Lake’s own Joe Sturgill, a former member of Four Finger Five, plans to give a sneak peek of his new solo project.
Seven Steps Up starts the weekend early with Aussie troubadour Daniel Champagne at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday ($20-$30). And at 3 p.m. Sunday, the venue hosts The Best of Open Mic sponsored by Courtyard Concerts, Walk The Beat and Third Coast Recording Company, featuring the top talent from previous open mic nights ($5, tips accepted and shared by the musicians). Visit pindropconcert.com for details and tickets for this week’s shows.

Where: DeVos Performance Hall, Grand Rapids
No one can quite compare to the great Ella Fitzgerald. The First Lady of Song is the center of attention for the 17th annual “Symphony With Soul” presentation by Grand Rapids Pops, with Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt. Davis, retired director of vocal music at Grand Rapids Community College, will lead the orchestra in “Portrait of a Leader,” a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., narrated by Eddie L. Stevens, who played the role of Dr. King in Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s production of “All the Way.”
This musical mid-century modern celebration will be preceded by a 6 p.m. “Celebration of Soul” dinner, where the Dr. MaLinda P. Sapp Legacy Award will be presented to Herschell Turner, Skot and Barbara Welch, and Celebration! Cinema. Get details online at grsymphony.org.
