The most eclectic series in the history of Meijer Gardens deserves a pre-show playlist. And Local Spins has created one with the first concert on tap next week.

Suffice to say, there’s never been a more eclectic, wide-ranging roster of artists playing the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park summer concert series.
After all, the 2024 edition of the series kicks off on Wednesday with country/alternative rock and LGBTQ hero Orville Peck, a South African native from Canada who wears a mask when he performs. Check out his latest single via YouTube here.

The succession of concerts that follows in the 33-show season includes a Michigan bluegrass powerhouse (Greensky Bluegrass), a legendary R&B horn band (Tower of Power), an iconic Mexican-American act that oozes Tex-Mex and blues (Los Lobos), a rising psychedelic soul outfit (Black Pumas), a funky New Orleans ensemble (Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue) and a Kentucky rock dynamo (My Morning Jacket).
And that’s just the first month of a series that also boasts Motown legends, unusual pairings with the Grand Rapids Symphony, a multi-Grammy Award-winning vocal harmony favorite, a virtuosic guy known for his whistling and a world music ensemble led by a renowned Cuban bandleader.
Tickets for 13 of the 33 concerts in the Fifth Third Bank Summer Concerts series are still available here, including Wednesday’s opening night with Orville Peck (also featuring Durand Jones and Debii Dawson), as well as: Tower of Power, Amos Lee, Warren Haynes Band with Grand Rapids Symphony, Charley Crockett, Il Divo, Boyz II Men, Black Pumas, Andrew Bird, Grace Potter, Leslie Odom Jr., Buena Vista Social Orchestra and Keb’ Mo’/Shawn Colvin.
To warm up fans for the summer series, Local Spins has compiled a playlist of tracks from each headlining act for 2024. It is, to say the least, a diverse soundtrack.
(Oh, and the amphitheater actually hosts its first concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the kickoff of the
Ayers Basement Systems Tuesday Evening Music Club with the Par-LLo Connection and Avalon Cutts-Jones. Details here.)
