For many Michigan bands and solo artists, playing the same coveted stage as internationally acclaimed acts such as Jason Mraz, My Morning Jacket, Black Pumas and Bonnie Raitt puts more than just a feather in their cap and another gold star on their musical resume.

The opportunity to regale thousands of concertgoers at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park amphitheater on a sun-splashed evening ranks as a career highlight and a lifelong memory.
That makes Meijer Gardens’ annual Tuesday Evening Music Club series a much-anticipated summer highlight for fans and bands alike.
This summer’s Tuesday evening roster features a wide range of artists – hip-hop, Gyspy swing, pop, blues, soul, rock, poetry and more – including appearances by Lady Ace Boogie, Thornetta Davis, Djangophonique, Molly, Avalon Cutts-Jones and Kanin Wren’s popular Taylor Swift Experience.
Most of the 7 p.m. concerts on Tuesdays in June, July and August (with the exception of June 11) are free to members of Meijer Gardens, with non-members just paying the regular Meijer Gardens admission fee, which allows families to roam the gardens before and during the shows. The Aug. 6 performance of Kanin Wren’s Taylor Swift Experience requires a separate ticket – ($15-$30) – available online here.
Several of this summer’s performers are new to the series, while oldies pop group 6-Pak (July 9), classic rock’s Franklin Park (July 16) and the Grand Rapids Ballet (Aug. 27) have become annual mainstays on the schedule.

Tuesdays also will include the pairing of award-winning Ann Arbor jazz manouche and gypsy swing band Djangophonique with The Grand Rapids Chorus Sweet Adelines (June 25) and indie-Americana’s The Mickeys with roots/rock/blues/funk’s Lyons & Co. (July 30).

Detroit blues legend Thornetta Davis returns to the amphitheater on Aug. 20, Grand Rapids soul/pop singer Molly on July 2 and soulful rock outfit Nathan Walton & The Remedy on Aug. 13.
Ed Krieger, CEO of series sponsor Ayers Basement Systems, called it a “premiere music series” that can “enhance lives, ultimately fostering significant impact within our communities.”
The series also gets support from WYCE (88.1 FM), Meyer Music and Corporate Live. Get more details online here.
Series founder Ralston Bowles stepped down from hosting the Tuesday concerts at the end of last summer’s series.
