Stars of the touring Broadway musical want to impress the city with ‘what this show’s all about live‘ and fans are ready: 95 percent of tickets for the run here already have been sold.
Grand Rapids this week gets its first crack at hosting the famous Broadway musical, “The Phantom of the Opera.”
And the Phantom himself, aka singer and recording artist Chris Mann, is eager to impress local fans.

“We’re very excited to show the city what this show’s all about live,” said Mann, who performs alongside singer Katie Travis, who stars as protagonist Christine.
The critically acclaimed production – which began with a sold-out tour in the United Kingdom – has brought its North American tour to DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids as part of the Broadway Grand Rapids season. The run kicked off Wednesday, with performances scheduled nearly every day through May 29.
The cast will perform 16 shows in each city during the rigorous tour.
Cameron Mackintosh’s latest musical production has generated a buzz with its 52-member cast/orchestra and some brand new features. The production boasts new choreography, design, staging and around 1,000 costumes for the audience to see.
Incorporating modern technology also helps in upsizing its grandeur, which includes new lights, special effects, and even Bluetooth to control the set’s rotating walls.
Preparing the set for this “bigger and better than ever before” production is no easy feat. It takes 2-1/2 days to load the show into a building, requiring the hiring of about 100 local stagehands. There’s even a special team for handling the famous one-ton chandelier, another star of the show.
This also represents the longest production that DeVos has ever hosted, and shows are selling out fast.
Tickets to the Grand Rapids showings already are 95 percent sold, with remaining tickets starting at $54.50. Find out which tickets are still available online here.
