Despite gray skies and some brief showers, Meijer Gardens’ seventh concert of the season entertained a sellout crowd with pop-hued folk-rock and alt-rock by two popular live touring bands.
Overcast skies and mugginess aside, the outdoor amphitheater at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park boasted an upbeat vibe on Monday night with another sold-out crowd of 1,900 greeting a pair of increasingly popular touring acts with a pop sheen: folk-rock’s Phillip Phillips, of “American Idol” fame, and alt-rock’s O.A.R.

Both acts — who essentially sidestepped a downpour which swept into the area between their sets — uncorked a Dave Matthews Band-like vibe during the evening of music, which began much earlier than usual (at 5:30 p.m.) with L.A.-based singer-songwriter known as LP entertaining the age-diverse crowd.
Many fans didn’t even seem to mind getting doused at one point, perhaps enjoying the relief from the high humidity.
